Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Who to recover data on a broken hard-drive!

Seal it and put it in a freezer over night. It will recondition and you will be able to recover your data. But this will only give you enough time to work with it for some time few hours perhaps but its never a permanent fix. Normally this works when you here the hard-drive making a funny sound....like knocking! At list it worked for me try it out!

my external hard drive was damaged i wont recovery from hard drive.

Depending on the severity of the damage you have a couple of options.

1) Put the HDD inside a airtight bag and place in a freezer for at least 4 hours. Remove the HDD from freezer and see if it works. If it does start to work you will have a limited amount of time to recover the data.

2) Pay Data recovery company to recover the data

West Digit 250 Gig drive died

This may sound crazy but this is how we recovered data off the hard drives when i was in college for CCNA.
Take the hard drive out and put it in a freezer for about 20-25min and then take it out and insert it into your laptop, It should give you enough time to recover your data. If it still will not load you could try getting a hard drive enclosure and throw the hard drive in the freezer again and make sure you have a working computer aval. and then take the hard drive out and install it in the hard drive enclosure and then plug the usb into your working computer and try and get your information off of it. Hope this helps.

My External HDD WD 500 GB Took a nasty spill i get the light to come on when i plug it in but it flashes and goes off and the drive attempts to read for a few seconds but shortly after gives up and is never recognized by the cpu. Any Hope?

There may be. Since it is your external hard drive, if it will not recognize enough to mount you cannot recover data from the drive and the only way to physically recover the data might be a company that specializes in data recovery services which are very expensive.

Try contacting Western Digital support and see what they recommend in your situation. Don't tell them specifically that it fell, but have them walk you through troubleshooting steps as if it is just not working. If they ask, of course, tell them the truth. They will be more sympathetic with people who are honest about stuff like that.

It could be that you merely have a loose connector where the cord plugs in to your drive. Try moving it around and see if a position allows your computer to recognize it and if it does, grab your data asap.

freezer problems big time

Try putting a tray of crushed charcoal in there... a one foot by one foot tray about 3 inches deep filled with crushed BBQ briquettes (the kind that doesn't have lighter fluid in it!) left over night or longer may pull much of the "stank" out, and you can always do it again with fresh charcoal if it works but not well enough... Good luck!
