Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Turning off autorun on windows operating systems

Its pretty simple and ignored so often but by simply turning off your autorun to stop files, mp3's and programs running without permission can be annoying but has a great outcome. it decreases the risk of becoming infected by those ridiculous autorun virus' still in the wild.

how to do it:

1) Goto Run ( Click start , click run )
2) Type gpedit.msc press enter
3) Expand User Configuration option located at your left
4) Click on System
5) Find an option at your right which says TURN OFF AUTOPLAY .Double click it.
6) Enable it and Turn Off Auto Display to All Drives
7) If group edit has already been disabled it means you dont have permission to modify it as you are not the administrator or you have already been affected with a virus .

I have windows os and there is a autorun.inf something hidden file in my all drives.my avira antivirus has blocked that file.and i want to know that is the file safe or it is going to harm my pc.what should i do?

Autorun.inf is the primary instruction file associated with the Autorun function. Autorun.inf itself is a simple text-based configuration file that tells the operating system which executable to start, which icon to use, and which additional menu commands to make available. In other words, autorun.inf tells Windows how to deal open the presentation and treat the contents of the CD.

That being said, it would depend on what it is trying to run automatically. If it is trying to run iTunes automatically that is one thing, but if it is running a virus automatically it would not be safe.

You can right click on the file, and edit it with notepad/wordpad to find out what program it is trying to run.

wga-notification1.jpg If you get this picture, then try the following to diable this service:

First,
  • Lauch Windows Task Manager.
  • End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoft

Or,

disabe and rename the files ‘WgaLogon.dll’ and ‘WgaTray.exe’ in C:WINDOWSsystem32 folder by using the program Unlocker seems to get rid of all the nags/popups.

you can download Unlocker here:
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Or,

change and disable the execute bit of WgaLogon.dll:
  • Turn off Simple File Sharing in Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab.
  • Right click WgaLogon.dll in Windows Explorer and open the Security Tab.
  • Click Advanced button.
  • Uncheck the Inherit box at the bottom.
  • Click the Copy button.
  • Click OK.
  • Go through each listed user/group and remove the “Read & Execute” permission for WgaLogon.dll, leaving the “Read” permission as-is.
  • Click OK to apply the permission changes.
  • Close the file properties dialog.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Turn “Use simple file sharing” on (optional).
OR

Install ZoneAlarm firewall, and configure to kill or disallow “WGA” in the allowed programs section.

Or,

Download and install Autoruns from www.sysinternals.com. Run the program, go to the WinLogon tab and uncheck (disable) the WgaLogon, as suggested by PSnet.

Hope this helps, and please rate! ^_^

how can i remove virus worm/autoit permanently

its simple guys..!!!
if it asks for permission to access outlook..don't permit it because it is a smart virus and is going to spread it to all the people on your contact list...!!!
simply open task manager and end process tree of KHATRA.exe , gHost.exe , xplorer.exe and OUTLOOK.exe seperately...!!
then run your anti virus or download one if you don't have one..!!!
run a complete computer scan in detail..!!
then delete all files which are infected by the virus because the results contain only duplicate files which are created by the virus
