Tip & How-To about Car Audio & Video

Aftermarket Stuff

Computers don't perform well with aftermarket stuff which can cause driveablity issues. This is one of the reason that manufactors will void most warranties if you add any components to the vehicle that are aftermarket.

the automatic lock keeps locking and unlocking while driving

If your vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket security system, it could be causing this. I have removed several these systems from my customer's cars for the same reason. GM has technical service bulletins that discuss this as well as other driveability/emissions problems that these systems have been causing.

If there is no aftermarket in your car, I would scan the Body Control Module (BCM) first to see if the computer knows anything.

No codes - I would look into a possible loose connection or bad switch in one of the door panels.

I use an extensive amount of diesel fuel in my 2007 F350 - can I disconnect the emission control device? Would it help?

I would not recommend disconnecting anything. This can void warranty and cause severe engine damage. There are several engine tuners or 'chips' as people call them that can increase performance and often times mileage too. They also will not void the manufacturer's warranty. Be sure there are no issues with you vehicle as of right now such as the check engine light being on or other driveability problems. Quality of fuel has also been known to significantly reduce mileage.

2 codes show up on the reader.

The P0341 code is a code indicating that the cam position sensor circuit is out of range or not performing properly. The P0404 code indicates the EGR is out of range or not performing properly.

Those codes seem rather odd to have together. If the cam sensor was bad I would expect some driveability issues or possibly even issues with getting the vehicle started. The EGR could cause some idle issues.

I just cant get past that those codes seem so unrelated, they are for two different systems. If you are not experiencing any driveablity issues, I would clear the codes with either a scan tool or just disconnect the battery for a few minutes. If they come back then yes, I would have it looked at. You could try replacing the Cam position sensor, and see if that helps, but the EGR is a bit more challenging and would be a more costly item to replace.

Hope this helps out.
