Tip & How-To about Video Game Consoles & Games

How to reset your ps3's default settings

You simply turn off the system to start with,
then you hold the ON/OFF button until you hear a SECOND BEEP.
then let go and soon enough, your ps3 should have reset your display settings.
if it turns off, youve held onto the button for too long.

this is useful if you have got a new TV, or if you accidentally messed around with the resolution and display settings.

on ps3, when switched on, says hard drive corrupted, will restore. after a while trying to restore, same thing comes up again.

  • Turn off the PS3 console, if it isn't already.Press and hold the power button on the console as it powers on, and then powers off again.Press and hold the power button a second time until you hear two consecutive beeps. If your console powers down before you hear the second beep, try holding down the power button again. It should work during the second cycle.Connect your controller to the console with the USB cable when prompted to do so.Turn on the controller. You will now have access to the PS3 recovery menu.Select option three which states "Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files." This option will identify and correct and corrupt files. Your PS3 should now be fixed. If this option doesn't fix your problems, you'll want to do a complete system restore and follow the next step.Turn off the PS3 console by holding down the power button.Press and hold the power button on the console as it powers on, and then powers off again.Press and hold the power button a second time until you hear two consecutive beeps. If your console powers down before you hear the second beep, try holding down the power button again. It should work during the second cycle.Select option 5 which states "Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch." Be aware that performing a complete system restore will cause all data on the hard drive to be lost. This option restores the PS3 back to its original factory condition.

    Welcome to Fixya

    Try the troubleshooting procedure below:

Step 1 - Turn off the playstation 3 by holding the power button on the front of the unit till the power light is red.

Step 2 - Touch and hold the power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the playstation 3 is powering on. Continue to hold the power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset. Continue to hold the power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (power light is red).

Step 3 - Touch and hold the power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the playstation 3 to power on. Continue to hold the power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset. Continue to hold the power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At this point release the power button. if you succeeded in activating the safe mode, you will see a message on the screen saying 'connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button.

Step 4 - Perform the safe mode options in the following order until one of the options works for you. If one option works, do not continue onto the other options.

    Restore Default Settings
    Restore File System
    Rebuild Data Base
    Restore PS3 System etc...

after buying new av cables (all i had was an HD cable), plugging my ps3 into my friends giant old mitsubishi tv, and turning it on, nothing pops up on screen. it flickers like the system is starting up, but that is all. my friends xbox 360 works just fine though, and my playstation is not damaged at all, so whats the deal?

Please try the following steps to solve your PS3 problem :

Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)

Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it and then about 5 seconds later it will beep again. Let go of the power button when you hear this second beep.

Step 3. Wait for your PS3 to start.

This solution basically resets the video output back to standard definition.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

ps3 wont power all the way up

if you have moved your ps3 to a different tv or something, the video setting can get messed up, thus having to reset the video settings. here are a few steps to do so.

    1. put your finger on the reset button and wait until the ps3 is in standby. (Keep holding your finger on it, don't let go)

    2. turn off the ps3 completely by switching off the power switch (make sure your still holding your finger on the reset button)

    3. turn your ps3 back on (while still holding the reset button) and you will hear a beep. keep holding the reset button until you hear a second beep. let go of the reset button as soon as you hear the second beep

this should reset the video of your ps3. ive done this to my ps3 before because when i was installing linux i almost screwed up my ps3. when i turned on my ps3 no picture or sound would appear. so i called sony and this is what they told me to do and it worked.
