Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

If your refrigerator will not cool but freezer works good

Alot of times if your frige is not cooling but the freezer works good most of the time all you need to do is defrost the whole frige for atleast 3 hours if that dont do the trick you may have to replace your thermostat timer that is connected to the dial in top section of the refrigerator sometimes it is turned up to high

not cooling and making ice

Ice is made when freezer temperature is cold. Freezer and refrigirator will not cool if iced up on back wall. Your defrost system failed, causing frost buildup on the coils and restricting airflow and heat transfer. Most likely cause is a defective defrost timer that is not advancing into defrost (2-3 times every 24 hours). Defrost system comprise Timer, Heater, and Thermostat. You need the tools to diagnose the cause or just try one by one to replace the parts. Other choice is to call a tech. The freezer must be defrosted one time manually to remove the long accumulated frost.

freezing up in duct system frig part

Have you checked the heater/defroster element within the freezer? It may be related. When mine failed I was doing the defrosting with a hair blower. Over time (several days) the frost would build up on the freezer coils and the air couldn't flow as it should....so the thermostat wasn't getting cooled enough and it relayed the information to the cooling system, causing the frige to run all the time. Since it was clogged with frost, the frige was constantly trying to cool itself and the frost problem would get so bad that things in the freezer began to melt due to a lack of cold air circulation. After the heater/defroster element was replaced, frost would melt during the defrost cycle (as it should) and airflow/circulation was restored, allowing the thermostat to be cooled properly. Then the freezer coil was able to 'rest' when it should instead of constantly freezing to meet the demand for cold air in the frige. Hope this makes sense...and helps solve your issue.

hey there, I have a Westpoint NOFROST De Luxe Tropical frige, model # WRK 297.1. The freezer section is forming ice and the circulation fan is making alot of noise due to ice being formed behind the back surface panel. I defrost the freezer section and restarted the frige only to discover that the lower section ie. not the freezer section but the other section, isn't getting cool. Please help. Regards

I believe your problem is the defroster circuit . There are only three components on most refrigerators unless you have something real special . Kidding . They are as follows : defrost timer , heating element , and defrost cut out switch . The defrost timer cycles the refrigerator out of normal operation and into defrost mode once every six to eight hours depending on the unit . When in this mode everything shuts off , compressor , circulation fan , and condenser fan is so equipped . To eliminate the circulation fan , you'll have to keep an eye on your refrigerator checking in every half hour or so for six hours to eight hours and see if it stops working . If it does , then we know the timer is working correctly and the problem will be the heating element or cutout switch . The heating element is checked with an ohm meter. Usually they burn out when they go bad and you will read infinite resistance. The defrost cutout switch should read 0-1 ohms when the freezer temperature is 40° F or lower. If the heating element checks good , in other words it shows to have resistance usually between 30 and 100 ohms, replace the cutout switch . If the circulation fan never shuts off and the unit continues to run without shutting down after a six or eight hour Time cycle , replace the defrost timer . Good luck

my freezer is working but my frige is not cooling

wrong model # ,defrost problem. remove freezer panel, check heater, check limit switch while still covered in ice, if both ohm infinity, replace defrost timer.
