Snow throwers

Just returned from the parts store, they had sold out of drive belts for the auger drive on snow throwers... figured I could help out here;

Wet snow is heavy, duh right? Before you run your snow thrower disconnect the spark plug, for safety. Check the chute, and sand any loose paint rust etc. you want a smooth chute.. paint if needed, let dry 24 hours before use, spray with silicon lube spray, this will loessen the stress on your auger belt and hopefully keep your machine running all season. Brookstone Pure Ion Pro clicking noise, ineffective. I understand the "sparking" is ok, but my unit doesnt "spark". The fans run, and the unit makes two different clicking noises; one after the next (clicks are apprx 2 seconds apart and it happens every minute and a half or so). It no longer collects dust from the air, and it no longer puts out the clean "ionic" air smell. Ive already returned one for the same issue. Am I doing something wrong?


did you ever figure out the clicking noise problem?
mine stared doing the same darn thing after I whashed the filters and inserted them into the units, I used the builted in drying setting, and thats when the problem started. I know you are not supposed to run the unit with a wet filter, thats why I put it on the dry mode first. I think I am just going to return them back to Brookstone.

How do I replace these two evpensive machines that no longer work?


You answered your own question really, you "replace" them. The Sharper Image online company you see today is not the same Sharper Image company that made these units. That company went into bankruptcy in 2008 and the name was bought by new investors who opened a new online store under the Sharper Image name. Unless the store you bought these from has a return policy that is still valid, you are stuck with two units that have no warranty and no service or parts support.

If you know what is wrong, you can find second-hand parts online and fix it yourself. If you do not know what is wrong, finding out by replacing parts can get expensive very quickly. In that case, I would suggest selling the unit for parts or just disposing of it alltogether. There will usually be someone like myself who is looking for parts since that is the only way to keep these running anymore. I can see what second hand parts are selling for online and it may be worth trying to sell them off. Whether any parts are actually being sold at those prices, however, is another story and you may just be wasting your time trying.

I cannot locate my manual and I am trying to figure out how to remove limescale/calcium carbonate from the unit. My humidifier is not part of the vacuum cleaner it is the smaller one that you sit on the counter. I need to know how to clean the top motor part.


with a wet or dry old tooth brush. use a firm one though. you can also dip in a solution of CLR mixed with water,then wip it dry. dont forget to clean the spicket by turning it counter clockwise and using a q-tip or baby bottle nipple brush . do this under running water. good luck

it is malfunctioning and i bought an extended warranty. i see that they were bought out and the stores have closed. how do i return for a new unit under the warranty?


Sharper Image sold warranties through the NEW Corporation. That company is still in business and will should honor your warranty by either repairing or replacing your product.
Call them at their customer service line, which is 1-800-KEEP-NEW (533-7639)

Provide them with your Name, zip code and phone number and they should be able to pull up your contract.
