Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Using PC keyboards with your Mac

Some Mac owners may not be happy with the keyboard that comes with their Mac. Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of third party Mac keyboard choices on the market. However, you can just as easily hook up a normal PC keyboard to a Mac, and any USB keyboard would do.

There are still other problems, sometimes when you hook up a PC keyboard to a Mac, the function keys, such as the Alt, Ctrl, and Windows key may not be assigned correctly, and it doesn't emulate the same function as the functions keys for a Mac keyboard.

For some keyboards, such as many Microsoft keyboards that comes with Intellitype preference panel for the Mac, this can be fixed with just a few settings tweak. For keyboards that doesn't come with Mac specific software, you can simply use software such as:

DoubleCommand

This utility will allow you to reassign keys on your PC keyboard to correctly emulate the same behavior as a Mac native keyboard.

how to rotate a video from vertical to horizontal from a HTC sensation 4g to a Mac computer was recorded holding the phone wrong way.

source: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/rotate-video-files-mac-pc/ Rotate Video On Mac OS XThis tutorial works the same for iMovie '08 and iMovie '09. If you're still stuck with iMovie '06, you'll need to use a third-party plug-in.
Another point of conflict is the video format. Some of the more obscure ones, like 3GP, aren't supported. A shame, because these are actually used quite regularly for mobile compression. For these files, you'll first need to convert them to another file format. This can be done in QuickTime X, via File -> Save for Web.
Alternatively, you can use a third-party file converter like ReduxEncoder, or an online convertion tool like Zamzar.

imovie1.jpgUse File -> Import Movies... to select your converted video. iMovie will analyze the video and generate thumbnails, so this can take a few minutes for larger video files.

imovie2.pngBefore we're able to use the video, you'll need to add it to your Project Library from your Event Library. Just make sure you select the whole clip, and drag it over to the other side of the screen.

imovie3.jpgNow deselect the clip from your Event Library, and select the copy in the Project Library. To rotate your video, open the Crop menu, make sure it's set to 'Fit', and use the rotate buttons. When you're sattisfied, press Done.

imovie4.jpgYou'll notice that you're video has now been rotated in your Project Library. To export it, go to Share -> Export Movie... or press cmd+E.

imovie5.pngAs with Windows Live Movie Maker, you can also upload your rotated movie directly to YouTube, or your personal MobileMe Gallery.

my turtle beach headset doesnt work in my turbo fire 2 controller.

Unfortunately Turtle Beach made and tested their headsets with only the official Microsoft brand Xbox 360 controllers and therefore their headsets actually aren't compatible with all types of third party controllers. The Turbo Fire 2 is one of the controllers that the Turtle Beach headsets are not compatible with.

Hopefully this helped!

during start up my ibook g4 freezes at the blue screen, which appears after the grey apple. why is that happening?

The blue screen marks the start of the login process. If the Mac freezes there, it usually indicates that some third-party System Preference is hanging the boot process. There are several ways to diagnose the problem. The simplest is to hold down the Shift key after hearing the boot chime. This will disable third-party System Preferences and should allow you to come up to the login screen. Then you can review the third-party preferences and go to the website of each of them to make sure you have the most up-to-date version that is compatible with your level of the Mac OS.
