Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Use Windows Disk Defragmenter (Start –> Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Defragmenter). This utility, commonly called Defrag, gathers all the scattered file fragments and writes them into adjacent clusters, so each file occupies a contiguous section of the disk.
Hence your system takes less time approximately 20% of efficiency could be increased.

icons slow to launch on my xp

You may have a virus or trojan. Run a virus scanner (AVG is a free download) and then run SuperAntiSpyware (also free), or similar spyware and virus removal programs.

Run disk cleanup: start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk clanup.

Run defrag: start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter.

Also, you may have too many programs trying to start at the same time or one particular program that is jamming things up. You can use Sysinternals "Autoruns," to select which programs will run at start. Here's the link: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Autoruns/1092024321/1?all_reviews
