Tip & How-To about Plumbing

Kohler Toilet 1.6 Gallon Flush Install Tips. We just recently installed two of these and they work perfectly. LESSONS LEARNED: -This is a almost complete in box and needs to only install the tank and seat. It also came with a new wax ring and bolts. -What you also need is Full ring flange repair kit, (this is a round metal ring that goes over the existing plastic flange on the floor), put in as many screws as you can. On both we broke the plastic flange while installing the bolts. also the second one we also added a washer on the back side of the metal flange repair ring this made the connection even stronger. -The new bolts that hold the toilet to the floor will be to long and an need to be cut off. Don't just try to brake it off, we ran in to big trouble and is how we broke the flange. -Lastly go ahead and use Tub sealant and put a bead around the floor and base of toilet, this will keep it more secure and not allow any fluids to seep under the toilet and start smelling. Hope this tip helps. R/ David

leaking water into toilet bowl, no authorised dealers seem to stock the flapper

The flapper is not proprietary to this unit an after market flapper will work as good and in most cases better. The flappers offered but Fluid Master are in my opinion the best out there. Remove the flapper and match it up with one offered but them, install it and you will be good to go.
The problem with getting the stock part is that the toilet your working on was discontinued so time ago and unless you are ready to give up your 3.5 gallon flush toilet keep fixing it as long as you can.

Can't install new Kohler rialto Flush Value

First things first, remove the fill valve, and the flush handle mechanism. This will give you plenty of room to work with the flush valve. Before installing flush valve lubricate tabs with plumbers grease. Now put on a pair of work gloves, pushed down very hard and turn the tabs should slide easy because of the grease. Remember do not alter the gasket, the gasket needs to be compressed to do its job. I know removing the fill valve and the flush handle seems like a pain, but there is no way to get your hands in the proper position to install the flush valve assembly.

I just installed an american standard cadet 3.Home depot rated this toilet as a 10 for flush power. when I flush 1st off the flapper wont stay up on it own long enough to flush,2nd if I hold it open it is then a weak flush at best.I have tried more water in the tank with barley any noticable difference.one thing I did notice is that it does not have a strong swirl like most toilets. Any ideas would help Jim

We have just recently purchased one of the American standard cadet at home depot from a discount flyer and had it for about a day and took it back.

Like you said, Did not notice Any thing like a strong flush.

RECOMENDATION:

Take it back.

Home Depot also sells a Kohler Toilet 1.6 Gallon Flush Install
This is all it said it was. It saves water for sure and has a quick flush.

We liked it so much we purchased two of them because everyone in the house only wanted to using our bathroom.

Hope this tip helps.

The toilet comes with a hard body flapper which utilizes a pretty straight-forward gasket. The gasket material failed within 3 months. The Korky that I purchased will not function properly. Impossible to tell which OEM flapper to get because the Eljer site is inadequate. This is a brand new toilet that's turned-out to be a nightmare. I have had good luck with Eljer's sinks, but I will never purchase another toilet from them. I'll stick with Kohler next time.

Toilet problem! When it flushes the water rises way above normal before it empties. It does seem to flow out normally. It fills up to normal height but after awhile the water level is way down below normal. What could cause this?
