I have an E-Machine desktop PC that is failing to boot. It is running on windows 2000. When it starts booting, it says that one of the files needed for booting is missing. It further tells me to run a setup disk to repair the missing file. The problem is that when I run a setup disk, just before it displays the window that prompts me either to press Enter for OS setup or R for repair, it is presenting with a blue screen. I tried to use other setup disks, no change. I also tried to scan the hard disk for viruses in other PC but still no change. How can I resolve this?

Windows 2000mag-glass_10x10.gif boot disks allow you to by-pass damaged Windows 2000 operating system files to get your computer up and running in a solid, stable configuration. You simply tell the computer to access the Windows 2000 codes necessary for start-up from your floppy disk drive rather than the hard drive. Creating the set of four boot disks is specific to this version of the operating system
  1. Step 1 Insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. Insert a formatted, blank diskette into the floppy disk drive. Have three additional formatted, blank diskettes standing by.
  2. Step 2 Click "Start" at the bottom left corner of your computer screen to open the start-up menu. This lists the start-up actions available for Windows 2000. Select "Run." The program then asks you to designate the drive, program, folder or file you want to open by either typing the destination or clicking "Browse," to select the destination from the Windows 2000 directory.
  3. Step 3 Click the "Browse" button at the bottom of the pop-up window. The PC's hard drivemag-glass_10x10.gif directory window appears.
  4. Step 4 Browse the computer's hard drive directory and select the CD-ROM drive to designate it as the destination you want to open. Click "OK" to open the CD-Rom drive. The folders and files saved on the Windows 2000 CD now appear in the directory format.
  5. Step 5 Select the "Bootdisk" folder. A directory of files appears.
  6. Step 6 Double-click the program file "Makeboot.exe," then click "OK" to launch the Windows 2000 boot disk maker program. The program checks that you have a formatted diskette in the floppy disk drive and then begins to make the boot disk.
  7. Step 7 Watch your screen as the process of making the boot disk progresses. The boot disk for Windows 2000 requires four diskettes. The program cues you to remove the first diskette and insert the second, and so on until all four diskettes are created and the boot disk making process is finished.

I have a gateway m285-e and can't get XXp Sp2 to recognize the Hard drive. How do i fix it??

hi guy
just follow this guide it'll help you
fisrst of all get the driver from here :

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=20455&dscr=Gateway%20Notebook%20Computer%20Intel%20SATA%20Support%20DriverVersion:%205.5.0.1035

then follow this guide
Note: Installation of this driver requires the use of a floppy disk drive. If your computer does not have an internal floppy disk drive, an external USB drive can be used instead.

Download the driver file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps.

1. If you have not already done so, locate and double-click the D00455-001-001.exe file that you downloaded from the Internet and execute the file. Files extract to the C:\Cabs\D00455-001-001 folder on your hard drive.

2. Insert a blank floppy disk in the floppy disk drive.

3. In the C:\Cabs\D00455-001-001 folder, double-click F6flpy32.exe.

4. Click OK to start the disk creation.

5. The disk creation dialog box closes when the disk is complete.

6. During the installation of Windows you will need install this SATA controller driver. Press the F6 key on your keyboard to install a third party controller driver.

7. The Windows installation program requires the use of a USB floppy disk drive and the floppy disk that was created above.

8. The Windows installation procedure attempts to load the drivers twice; once directly after the F6 selection, and a second time after the installation files copy to the hard drive.

9. Select the "- Intel(R)82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller Mobile ICH7M" option as listed.

Note: To find the required selection it may be necessary to scroll down even though there is no indication to scroll down.

Note: If you experience any recognition errors during the installation, please reference this Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB916196. This article explains which USB floppy drives are supported by the Windows installation process. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916196/en-us

Removal

Because the computer must have these SATA drivers when using a non-Gateway supplied operating system, these drivers are necessary and should not be removed.

just let me know
