Tip & How-To about GPS

How to change language on TomTom GPS Sat Nav

If the language display on your TomTom has changed and is now unrecognisable, it can be very frustrating to find how to change it back as the menus are no longer clear to understand.

This Tip is written with illustrations so that you can easily Navigate to the language menu and reset the display.

1) First tap on the centre of the screen to bring up the main menu as shown below..

2) Next tap on the preferences Menu (Spanner/Wrench Icon circled below)

3) With the preferences menu open - the icon you need to tap is this one.

4) This menu displays all available languages. Scroll through each one until you find the required setting. You may have to work through each one of these language options if the meaning remains unclear.

Once selected, the language used for all the buttons and messages on the unit will be changed. Once you have selected your language, you will also be given the opportunity to change the voice if required.

Hope this Tip helps. Please do please remember to leave a vote for this solution.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium in Italian. I want to change it to English. Is it possible?

Yes you need to install a language pack, he display language is the language that Windows uses in wizards, dialog boxes, menus, Help and Support topics, and other items in the user interface. Some display languages are installed by default, and others require you to install additional language files. When you change the display language, it is changed for your user account and is not changed on the Welcome screen. If you want to set the display language for multiple users or the Welcome screen, see Apply regional and language settings to reserved accounts.
  1. Open Regional and Language Options by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clickingControl Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Regional and Language Options.
  2. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.
  3. Under Display language, choose a language from the list, and then click OK.
gl_ico.png NoteIf you don't see the list of display languages, you need to install additional language files first. For more information, see Install a display language.
When you change the display language, the text in menus and dialog boxes for some programs might not be in the language that you want. This happens because the program might not support Unicode. For more information about changing the text in menus and dialog boxes for programs that do not support Unicode, see Change the system locale.
