IF YOUR LCD/PLASMA TV/MONITOR SHUTS OFF ON ITS OWN DO THIS;

If the tv/monitor nshuts off on its own, or takes a long time to"warm up", then placing a fan on medium speed at least, will keep the components (the bad ones in this case are called capacitors) cooled down enough to be able to extend the use for a while longer while you find a repair man or fix it yourself. I have a Poloroid 32" lcd panel that shut off on its own over and over tilll i placed a fan behind it, I'm on it now typing this and it has been on for 3 weeks now, till I need to fix it, I will use it this way...So here comes my guide for you to diagnose your own tv/monitor (the tv's with blinking lights etc are past this fan "life-support" and will already need the capacitors in the powerboard replaced......If this helps you (or not)please rate thank you!

The caps (capacitors) in the powerboard are going out. This is a very common problem in all class and price ranges of modern lcd and plasma tv's/ monitor's. I don't know if this problem has been like this for awhile or it just started, but either way, if the tv takes an abnormal amount of time to "warm" up then it most likely will go out all the way sometime in the (near) future. If you have a tiny bit of will and knowledge ypou can open the unit and get to the print board. Examine this for "popped" capacitors, they will have a buldging top instead of a flat one. Im gonna try to include a pic of them here, if i can get it this time, I've tried bfore lol. But you can google image a "popped" or "bad" capacitor and you would be able, with ease, to diagnose if you have any of these. Usually only one or two. Radioshack sells capacitors (couple anyway) for $1.59 each. MAKE SURE the replacement is of the SAME voltage or HIGHER, or you will be right back replacing those 2. Every capacitor has a negative pole marked with an (-) on the side of the capacitor(by one of the "legs", always puit the negative (-) "leg" of the new capacitor in the same hole in the printboard as where the previous negative (-) "leg" of the capacitor was ( a capacitor with the negative and positive "legs" put in backwards will result in the new piece "popping" as sson as you turn it on!!) make sure the "uf" rating (for example the most common popped capacitor is the 1000 uf) is the same as the one you are replacing. I needed 1000 uf, 105 c and 26v (volt) ratings for the 1 capacitor I needed to replace to fix my LG 19" lcd panel monitor I found by the trash that the light came on off, but it didn't come on. I replaced that capacitor with ; 1000uf, 85 c and 36 v (volts0...It works fine eventhough the volts and the temperature rating (36v and 85c) was not the same as the (26v(volt) and 105c ) capacitor I removed !! Further, I've replaced capacitors that had the celcius rating of 105 with the only ones Radioshack had, namely 85 c(celsius) they have been working great, but I'm not sure about any effect, nor have I heard or read (yet?) about that making an urgent difference. Many threads that I've read people have done the same, so we should be ok (my stuff has been running good for a while longer then most brand new ones!.............(all these ratings ; 'uf ' and 'c' etc are on the side of the capacitor you are replacing and on the side of the ones you are replacing them with)...For all this all you need is the cheapest solder gun u can find (I bought one for $7.99 at Radioshack), a camera (to take pictures as you go to remember how to reassemble the unit) and, once you have your materials, 20 minutes to replace 2 or 3 capacitors and you are good to go...Most monitors and tvs (lcd/plasma) I've seen you have to lay flat on the ground/bed/blanket etc, to work on (screen side down). Usually there are 2 or 3 screws (or a few more) to remove, then you will have to carefully (its comes off easily most times)insert a flat screwdriver inbetween the casing and gently pry it up as you go around the whole frame. Sometimes you have to remove the little washer arouind the cable input orso, just be gentle and you cant go wrong. Once insidet here will be a box with wires running to the sides etc...unplug, gently, these wires and open the box. Inside you will find 2 or 3 circuitboards, check them all for "popped" capacitors, replace, reassemble and plug it in....Have fun becoming an overnight tv mechanic...If this helped (or not )please rate, thank you! lol!

If it's just temperature, like you're getting cold air, make sure your engine is warming up. If it isn't, check coolant level. If that's good, you might need a thermostat (especially if it takes a long time to warm up). If the fan isn't blowing at all, check fuses for the blower motor. If you only get hi speed out of the blower Motor but not low or medium, your resistor block is the likely problem.

The fan in my 2002 GMC Savana cargo van doesn't work. I lost low, then medium speed, and finally the high speed.I checked the fuses and relays.I changed the blower resister, still no fan. The heat


Hi Jim, If the vehicle is fitted with climate control it will have electronic management. However it can be wired by someone knowing electrical circuitry to by pass the control. It will save you some cash but will need manual control. Make sure whoever does the job knows what he or she is doing. Have a happy new year. Regards John

I have an Emerson CF705AW with a broken speed switch Dealer sold me a Westinghouse #77021 Now I get these speeds: High, low,low,off - No medium speed Wouls switch # 77020 be correct? I nered a switch that will connect 2 wires at a time for medium Also, what colors go to what numbers on the switch? I have black, purple, brown & grey wires.


Ah.

A simple Capacitor based speed control. How many places do you have to put wires on your switch? You may have mis-wired the switch, or you have the wrong switch.

How it all works is... When you turn the fan to High, or position 1 on the switch (there's L 1 2 and 3) the power goes from 1, to the capacitor, but does not go through the capacitor, but instead goes through the second (probably gray) wire directly to the reversing switch in the switch housing. When you switch to medium (or 2) both 2 and 3 positions on the switch are supposed to be sending power through both capacitors inside of the black box. Basically, you have two capacitors, when you go to medium, both are wired in parallel to each other, but on low, only one is in the circuit. Basically, the switch you have, or have mis-wired, is putting only one capacitor in the circuit at the time on medium and low positions.

Also, do not worry, so long as you only mess with these 4 wires, you cannot blow anything up, However! When you disconnect power from the fan, BE SURE that the fan is "On" when you turn the power off to ensure the capacitor discharges as you can get a very very nasty shock from the bare wires.

Hunter fan with remote control was 3 speed, now only 2 speed


It sounds like fan motor is okay. There are two motor windings -- one low speed, one medium speed. Low winding gives you low speed, medium winding gives you medium speed, both windings give you high speed -- so I would say if you get high speed, both windings are good.

The remote (the hand held transmitter) controls the speed by raising and lowering the frequency of the current which is 60 cycle coming to the fan ceiling box. If the fan speed -selector switch (usually a pull switch) is set to high, when the remote (transmitter) signals the receiver to change speeds, the frequency of the current is changed by the receiver (the receiver is usually in the fan housing).

Sounds like you'll need to replace the remote system -- these come in sets, both transmitter and receiver, and cost about $30. If you're not experienced with wiring fans, you should get an electrician to do the job.

Casablanca fan speed problem


If this fan has a pullchain that also controls the fan speed, and you have a remote, the pullchain has to be set for the highest speed. If it is set at medium or low, it will mess with the remote operation. Note: usually high speed is the first pull after the "off" position.
