Tip & How-To about Kodak Digital Science 2500D Path-Through Scanner

Kodak 2500 scanner tires

Several years ago, Kodak stuck it to the owners of Kodak scanners. A simple, inexpensive consumable, tires, were taken off the market as a cheap thing to buy and they made it part of a care kit which just sent the price sky high.

If you own a 2500 Kodak scanner you can replace the retard tires with #13 O rings. They can be purchased from any Home Deport, Lowes....You will need a total of 12 O rings and that will cost you less than a buck. They work!!! I have been using them without incident for 2 years.

It appears that pictures are being taken with the lens cap on - when that's not the case. In other words all camera indications are that the picture is "taken", but it is a black square. I'm thinking a mechanical problem with shutter? The camera seems to "think" it is taking a picture.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help:

Kodak i40 Scanner - paper jamming

First clean with a damp cloth, then try Isopropyl Alcohol. Dont use solvents. Check if papers are sticky. Stapled papers are 'sticky' even after removing staples. loosen them if required. Notmally rollers last 200,000 to 250,000 scans

Blue screen only now on all inputs....

Good Day,

nniemeryer;

NO not simple problem. This dlp has so many problems that you have not experienced yet but you will. To repair this concern will be into the same $7-800.00 range again.
Not much of a market to sell this but can try local service shops/ or internet type places.
But let's not get too much in front of ourselves. I would call the manufacture and complain and try to get them to repair unit, tell them (they know) you know that TV is having a lot of problems and service bulletins written on this model. Here's their info:
