First of all this will never be a complete and total removal of those annoying logos that are added to your TV shows; this is not surprising as this is why broadcasters add their Opaque (solid) and semi-transparent bars to Videos and TV shows in an attempt to prevent copying and re-authoring of the content.
There are FOUR main methods that have their own unique merits I have listed them here in my order of preference.
DELOGO - Karel Suhajda
http://neuron2.net/delogo132/delogo132.zip
This requires you to dump a bitmap and cover the logo area with RED (255,0,0) and repair the AVI using this as a mask. As shown here save it as a 24-bit Bitmap using MS Paint or Photoshop
You can alter the Depth, Power and Pixel Aspect until you get the best result. If you view the Repair mask in the filter it will have a red inside and a yellow boarder these can be modified until you get the best results
However is a good idea to strike a happy medium between the X and Y components, if you set the Pixel Aspect ratio in the horizontal you will loose vertical lines on the AVI and vice versa, the middle settings will give you diagonal blending, this is the same as the MSU Logo Removal but with better results.
LOGOAWAY - Krzysztof Wojdon
http://voidon.republika.pl/virtualdub/logoaway_v401.zip
This is easier to use than the Delogo you simply need to specify the X.Y start and box size values width and height. Using these you can either use the
- Luminance
- X-Y
- Solid Fill
- UGLARM (similar to Delogo Repair Mask)
the UGLARM takes longer to process but gives similar results and sometimes better than delogo this shows the UGLARM mode preview where you can change the Remove Mode's : Radius and Component power.
MSU Logo Remove - Dmitriy Kulikov + Sergey Putilinhttp://compression.ru/video/logo_removal/src/msu_logo_remover.zipThe Remove Logo that you need to set up with the Up;Down;Left;Right pixels gives mixed results and wont work well on larger colourfull logos use the Draw Mask and Update Preview to check location If this fails the the Logo the Mask function gives better results when square you can use a shaped Delogo mask of the same size but with reduced reuslts.
Region Remove - Shaun Faulds
http://download2.videohelp.com/download/regionremove-v1.zipAllows the use of Soft Edges and is set up similar to LogoAway however you have little control other than the ignore edge function useful if the top edge of the logo is close to a letterbox padding area
If possible if you can trim the AVI close to the edge of the logo the results can improve however this all depends upon the size and transparency of the logo.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
DeLogo wins hands down on removing Alpha-Based logos (semi-transparent) using the DeBlend mode and also the ability to apply the repair and deblend masks to either a single or multiple number of frames. With this being the case you can easily create a mask per frame if needed and remove moving logo banners normally found at the end of video and combine several masks with different Pixel aspect ratios to find the best possible logo removal possible on AVI and MPG2 video streams.
In this example the pixel aspect ratio has been changed 3 times in the 7 instances of Delogo with 6 different masks at 720x576 then cropped to 704 then resized to 576x482 for DivX Home Video.
This third Delogo repair is on multiple frames with Full vertical fix the preceding and last Delogo repairs are on single frames set to 1:1 (default)
Using the excellent smart resize where the filter will calculate the new pixel size based on your aspect ratio this example shows a 1:1 ratio start pixel size 704x576 (Broadcast-D1 using PAL) to the new size of 576x482 at 100% (width and height not fixed to a multiple of 4)
Have a look at my tip for the top two logo removal filters with opaque logos Delogo wins again due to the fact that you can select which frames to repair it does take time to create the masks and any resize must be done last if you want to add more filters at the end you can always move then up the list (Delogo will tell you if you are trying to repair a video that is not the same size as your mask.
If you have the time and patience then this method might work for you as well if you fancy learning Abode Photoshop CS2 it takes much longer but with excellent results it will take you about 6 hours to remove upto 12 seconds of advert banner using
VirtualDub + Donald Graft's Logo v1.72b, Adobe Photoshop and TMPGEnc v4.0 Xpress
