Money-Saving lighting hints

We are being sold on the idea of florescent lights saving money. Please consider that these bulbs use a much lower amount of power while they are on. Also, be aware that they will "burn" for a longer period (on average) than other illumination types (excluding LED lamps). HOWEVER, it is critical to your pocket book... to be aware of the following :
1. FLORESCENT lamps cost 5 to 10 times the price of an incandescent lamp.
2. ON-OFF cycles reduce the operating life dramatically (for example, a garage door opener that comes on/off several times a day and stays on for only a short period of time will NEVER result in a savings to you). Please use these lamps ONLY in fixtures that are left on for at least several hours each day.
3. The environmental impact of a florescent bulb is dramatically greater than any other lighting device.
4. The longivity claims of the bulb manufacturer are not worth the ink that those claims are made of. If you doubt this, ask the retailer if you can return the failed bulb if you get less than 5,000 hours of life (ha ha).

Where is the backlight located in my viewsonic va1703wb?

The backlight is located inside the monitor behind the LCD screen, it looks like a thin florescent bulb. I would recommend not replacing it and just replacing the monitor. The bulb is cheap probably between 10 to 30 dollars, but you also may need the EMI kit, and with your labor involved you may not be saving any money. Also if you don't get the correct bulb you may have a green or hue effect.

Superswitch programmable wall light switch - when timer is in off position lights glow dim when using energy saving bulbs.

Manual say 'incandescent' light bulbs only.

What can I control with my EJ351C? The EJ351C timer is to be used with standard base incandescent light bulbs only! It should not be used to control lighting such as:
  • Compact Florescent
  • Energy Saver
  • Flood lights
  • Halogen
  • Mercury Vapor
  • Christmas lights
  • Candelabra bulbs

Passanger side outside headlamp bulb is out. replaced bulb, still wont work. Looking for wiring diagram and possible diag help. Thank you.

This car has a high output lamp system. Start by checking all your fuses. This system works like a florescent light and has a ballast that fails, troubleshooting these systems requires knowledge of high voltage systems. You may be better served taking it to a Jag. knowledgeable professional. In this case it may save you money and injury.

How much money can I save on electricity if I went from a 2000 watt hair dryer down to a 1800 watt hair dryer or even lower?

Well your electric company charges by kilowatt hours. For example, if you run a 100 watt light bulb for 10 hours, that is equal to one kilowatt hour or electricity. So you run your 2000 watt hair dryer for 1 hour that's 2 kilowatt hours (but who ever runs one for one hour?). Now my electric company charges about 11 cents/kilowatt hour, so actually that hair dryer is not using much power at all, so I wouldn't worry. If you want to go down to a lower wattage that would allow you a little leeway with how long the appliance is used but not enough to matter. You can also use the dryer on low or medium to save some money if you would like. The things that use massive amount of power, because they are high wattage and running constantly are microwaves (although they are not always running), air conditioners, dehumidifiers, electric heaters, and even your computer uses more power that your hair dryer will. You should also check out this add I read one time about the things in your house that use energy (actually related to a hair dryer) Hope all this helped!
