Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

How to unblock print heads

This method works on all printers that have the head on the cartridge Canon, Dell, HP and lexmark 2 cartridge printers, and Canon Individual cartridge printers with a removable head.
This also works as a way of clearing up streaking issues and getting cartridges flowing again after a long time of no use.
There are many solutions for this, but a simple way of getting ink to flow again is by using Boiling water.

  1. Simply fill a saucer with approx 2mm of just boiled water
  2. Place the print head in the saucer with the head in the water.
  3. Leave the head in the water for approx 2 - 5 Mins
  4. The Heat will assist in dissolving the Blockage with out using any chemicals.
  5. Also by using a syringe and forcing air into the top of the cartridge can help fill the lower chamber of most cartridges to overcome the Air-Lock issue some refilled cartridges have.

My Dell 944 keeps telling me to insert printing cartridges. I've done that multiple times, there's nothing wrong with the cartridges, and they both still have plenty of ink. I keep on trying to reinsert the cartridges, but the printer keeps just flashing the "change cartridge" instructions, and won't let me do anything else.

The cartridge have likely suffered a fatal defect. Dell/Lexmark cartridges are made to be fairly fragile mainly in an attempt to prevent refilling. Printing with a cartridge that has even a few clogged nozzles can "burn out" one of them and cause the printer to reject it. Sadly this is a common problem with Dell/Lexmark machines and the cartridge(s) will need replacing. Stick with HP/Canon.

prints like it is running out of ink, but it is a new cartridge. Some sentences are printing, others are blank, or partially printing.Followed instructions to align and clean nozzles. Doesn't help.

HTML clipboardIf you have lots of flashing error lights or electrical problems then it is likely to be electrical.

However, if like most... and your printer has just been left unused for some time? You probably have an ink clog on the cyan and magenta.
Or possibly a faulty cartridge.

Provided it worked OK before a period of non-use? Then you just need to use a PRINT HEAD CLEANING KIT to unclog the tiny jets.
Magic Inkjet Flush usually works a treat on those!

Magic is ideal for unclogging the tiny jets on any Canon, Epson HP andremoving those horrible white lines which usually appear in prints whendried ink clogs several jets...

So if yours appears to be a clog? all you should need to do is to use the Magic Inkjet Flush kit to soak the print head and you should be printing again like new.

Won't Print x4650

Here are a few possibilities...
1. Try cleaning the contacts on the inkjet cartridge and where they make contact inside the printer. (use cotton wool and Alchol) if that does not work...
2. Pull out power cable from printer wait 1 MINUTE then insert cable and switch back on again. (some printers reset to factory settings)
3. Remove printer cable from computer... Uninstall Printer driver from computer... Switch off both printer and computer. Wait 1 minute... Reconnect cables and switch on printer and computer... Allow computer to find printer reinstall driver.
4. Try installing old cartridge to see if printer rejects that?
5. You may have a faulty inkjet cartridge (return it to store if so)

Dell 810 All-In-One InkJet Incompatible Ink Cartridge error message

Well, first off ,it's dell's fault, not yours. Even Official Dell cartridges are temperamental at best. The cartridge error you are explaining is common with Dells. They even have what's called a marriage issue, meaning the cartridge will work in only one single printer. However, I'm not sure how to fix it. Sometimes, you can install a new one and the other cartridge you never touched gives you fits, and goofs up. I'd say get a new printer. Dell is increasingly getting more stingy with their ink, and truth be told, I don't think their quality (*lexmark makes dell, so stay away from them too) matches HP or canon. If you want the best cost per page, get a canon that has individual ink cartridges. They are easy to refill, and print a great picture. You pay more $$ up front, but you'll save a ton in the long run
