I took this laptop apart to try and fix the sound jack and speakers, in the process of doing this I think I damaged a couple of pins on the flat ribbon cable with 12 pins that goes from the power button to the motherboard, however I reconnected the cable and found that the laptop power button still worked and also connected the ribbon cable to the media panel but the media touch panel buttons did not work when pressed but they were lit up. So I bought a new ribbon cable and connected that to the media touch panel and replaced the touch panel and attached it to the casing with one of the screws then when I turned the power on and pressed the media buttons I saw smoke coming from the ribbon cable from the media panel and it melted the cable. Could it be because the damaged pins in the power button ribbon cable? are they all linked together? what could have caused this smoke and melting of the cable to the media panel? laptop is working fine turning on and off with just the power button cable with the damaged pins connected but I cannot get the wireless to turn on without the media touch buttons it is really frustrating trying to solve this issue.

the smoke means that you have a short circuit somewhere on your laptop double check the connections that you have made you might have to replace the flat ribbon make sure there is no dust at these connections you have to keep a computer free of dust/causes static electricity otherwise it can cause it to overheat and many other problems
hope this helps

I have a Tally 6212. I'm using non Tally ribbons which is producing a ribbon fault. I'm told by my ribbon supplier that there is an override to keep the ribbon from causing the fault. Can you enlighten me? Thanks, David

If the ribbon is causing the Ribbon Fault, they would not be very well made compatables I would suggest changing to one of the other brands available. I belive the T6215 senses the ribbon turning by having a silver strip stuck on a rotating disk on the back of the ribbon, if this strip is not present or is not being detected it will display a Ribbon Fault. You can check the ribbon to ensure it has a reflective strip by manually winding the ribbon and looking at the back side of the ribbon, you should see a rotating disk which is half silver and half black. If this disk is not present the compatable ribbons would not be that compatable. The T6215 does to have a fault over ride for the Ribbon Sensor on its own, you can only over ride all faults this may cause other problems as Paper Out, Paper Motion errors are also overridden. You can enable fault override in the following way; Press and hold down LINE FEED and ENTER for about 5 seconds untill the printer bleeps. Press and Hold down FORM FEED and ENTER for about 5 seconds untill the printer bleeps. The above actions enabls Fault Over rides temporarily if the printer is powered off or reset Thai setting will be lost.

the paper is coming out, but nothing is printed on it that you can read

Have you replaced the ink ribbon recently?

Open the lid and make sure the ink ribbon is not twisted or slack -- it should be straight and flat, between the print heads and the paper.

Close the lid and hold the feed button on the top while you turn the printer on. This will put it in self-test mode and it will keep printing until you turn it off again.

Does the self-test printout look any better than your normal prints?

If any of that helps, please be sure to hit the thumbs-up button for me.

And post a comment back if you want more help troubleshooting!
