Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Had "mirror image" boot screen.

I had a Dell XT2 tablet, brand new-when I went to boot it, the POST screen and Windows load screen were half-off the screen and mirror imaged as well. After trying the Dell website, as well as Google and Bing, with no success, I decided to try a trick that sometimes works on Toshiba Portege tablets too. Remove the battery, unplug the power adapter, and hold the power switch for 10 seconds. Replace the battery, plug back in, and it appears to reset the CMOS-both the Toshiba and Dell boot normally.I suspect that this will work for many other models of laptops, but I have no proof-I do know that it will work on Dell D-620/D-630 laptops. I have also used this trick to bring laptops out of what appears to be a 'hung' sleep/standby state.

Might need a new touch screen. There\'s really no way around a faulty touchscreen, previous owner probably tapped it a lot

I recently bought a dell latitude xt2. It kid currently running windows 7 professional. I installed the new BIOS for it (A13). It restarted and the opperating system screen came up. Shortly after the screen went black. I have taken the battery out, held the power button for 10 seconds, put the battery back in and powered it up. Saddling it just went back to the black screen. If any one has any suggestions that would be awesome.

The BIOS flash was ok, or you never would have seen windows boot up.
This is not a driver problem.. Are the lights staying on when it's plugged in, if not it's a bad charger and the battery is to low or dead. Have you tried to boot into safe mode, tapping F8. There is a video connector, plug in a monitor, borrow one if you can, if it works and the OS boots and windows run's, the screen is bad.

How can you get the touch screen or pen work on the dell latitude xt2? I can't figure out how to get the buttons to work or the screen to rotate.

What OS are you using ? Windows Vista or Windows 7 ?
In order to get the buttons and touchscreen working, you need to install the proper drivers.
Go to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_XT2&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Select your operating system
and download the following drivers and install them in the following order :
  1. System Utilities : - > Dell Utility : System Software
  2. ControlPoint -> Dell - Application : ControlPoint System Manager
  3. Input device drivers - > Ntrig Application
Restart your computer. Run Windows Update Restart your computer Everything should work.

pen and touchscreen not responding on my Dell Latitude XT2 Tablet PC

Hmmm does the penn have a battery then? I guess something is wrong with the wiring as not just the pen does not work but touching all all not. Stuff should just simply work and not require loads of troubleshooting.

cursor opening start menu and other applications by itself

Hi there, there are two possibilities here, one, the touch screen is compressed in 1 or more areas of the screen. two, it sounds like your PC has a prank virus in it that is causing unwanted side-effects. Try booting in safe mode on your tablet PC, and run a full virus scan.
