The next thing that you want to remember is that for your heater to run the best and get the longest runtime before service is need you need to run it with the cleanest fuel possible. Although these heaters are certified to run on kerosene as well as #1 and #2 heating oil and diesel fuel, you will get much more soot and other impurities built up in your heater if you run the lower grade fuels. Kerosene is the cleanest fuel you can burn is these units.

Another plus to running kerosene in your torpedo heater is that it will not gell in extremely cold weather. Even if the fuel is not completely gelled, when it gets very cold heating oil and diesel will get thicker and cause the heater not to work as well. The fuel is pulled up through a hose by the air going through the pump. Any changes in the viscosity of the fuel will begin to affect the amount of fuel pulled through the hose.

Bottom line is this. You may pay a bit more for the kerosene initially, but it will pay you off in the long run by you not having the troubles that you will experience by burning cheaper fuels. Burning only kerosene will give you a long satisfying experience with you torpedo heater.
