Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

How to service a water level switch

This is another control panel switch, usually located next to the temperature switch. There is a small hose connected to this switch, and sometimes this hose becomes loose and falls off the connection. When this happens, the water in the tub usually overflows. To solve this problem, cut about 1/2 inch off the end of the hose and use a push fit to reconnect it to the switch.

The switch itself can also malfunction, resulting in tub overflow and other water-level trouble in the tub. If you suspect this switch is faulty, remove it by backing out the screws holding it in place. Test with a VOM. If the switch is faulty, replace it with a new one of the same size and type. Connect the new switch the same way the old one was connected.

amrerican standard furnace internal fan runs continuous. Thermostat is off and i even disconnected wires at control board coming from thermostat. Fan wont shut off.

When a furnace fan motor doesn't shut off, it usually means it has tripped a limit switch. There are usually 2 and will be marked on the wiring schematics on the back side of the units door panel. Sometimes you can shut all the power off to the unit to reset it, but thats only sometimes. You will have a limit switch that is connected to the inside panel going into the units heat exchanger, it will have 2 wires going to it and will usually come out by taking out 1 or 2 screws. It is common to gently clean it off and get it working again, but it doesn't always work. There is another limit switch that is connected at the top inside the unit that has a rubber hose going to it, you can try to take the rubber hose off of the blower and blow in and **** out and see if you hear a click from the part that the hose is connected to. If you have no click, it will need replaced. While you have the hose off of the small blower (inductive), take a small piece of wire and stick it into the hole where the hose goes, sometimes it gets clogged with dirt. This is all I can really do without being there and it's nerve racking sometimes if you don't know where to start. You can also have a light flashing on the board if equipped that will flash a code, these codes are also located on the diagrams on the back side panel. If possible, this will help you out a lot faster. I hope I helped you with what is needed or at least steered you in the right direction. Good luck!
