Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Configuring ZoneAlarm Pro Security Settings, A ZoneAlarm Pro Toturial

If you're running zoneAlarm Pro you will probably have considered that most of the "advanced" setting might as well be in Chinese for all the use they are. User friendly they are not!

If you are not on a LAN ( connected to another computer in a network) you can use this guide to give your firewall some real muscle and a new lease of life:

Launch zoneAlarm Pro and click to highlight the "Firewall" tab on the left hand side. In the section " Internet zone security" set the slider control to "High" then click the "custom" button in the same section.

The next settings page is divided into two sections with tabs Internet zone and Trusted zone at the top of the page. Under the Internet zone tab there is a list of settings that can be accessed by scrolling. At the top is the high security settings and the only thing that should check from there is "allow broadcast/multicast". The rest should be unchecked.

Scroll down until you get to the medium security settings area. Check all the boxes in this section until you get to "Block Incoming UDP Ports". When you check that you will ve asked to supply a list of ports, and ion the field at the bottom of the page enter 1-65535

Then go back to the list and check the box alongside "Block outgoing UD Ports" and at the bottom of the page enter 1-19, 22-79, 82-7999, 8082-65535

Repeat this procedure for tha following settings
"Block Incoming TCP Ports": 1-65535
"Block outgoing TCP Ports": 1-19, 22-79, 82-7999. 8082-65535
Then click "Apply", at the bottom of the page.

whenever i am connecting internet my pc automatically downloads and install a chinese or french software, help me

You most likely have some malware on your pc. Two tools you can download and run on your pc to eradicate most malware are listed below:

Both products will run a trial for free (but not necessarily fix everything). The paid versions have a nominal cost. Using only one
of these tools (even when paid for) will not fix everything. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses in finding malware on your PC. I have had excellent results running them back to back on infected machines.

P.S. Do not set them both up to run automatically on startup, in fact consider just running them manually periodically. Together they may suck the life out of your computer at startup for several minutes.

what is the firewall name of kaspersky anti virus vista os

Kaspersky Anti-Virus does not come with a firewall. Only Kaspersky Internet Security does. So if you only have the Anti-virus then you need to add a firewall because Windows firewall is not good..
Zone Alarm Firewall Free is a good free one until or if you want to buy one, and is available here: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm

If you have Kaspersky Internet Security the firewall is probably referred to as "shields" or simply a "Two Way Firewall"
Hope this helps

pc freezes after i log on this hppened rite after i instld zonealarm pro ?

Uninstall zonealarm pro completely and restart pc (use Revo uninstaller). Reinstall and check whether your problem is solved. If not then try another antivirus, maybe a trial to see if the problem is specific to zonealarm.

No access to the internet

When you say you did a reset on the router, did you unplug it and plug it back in after a while, or did you do a reset to factory settings?

If you have access to the settings of your router, check to make sure the firewall in your router is not set to block all connections. Also, make sure your IP filters are not enabled. This could cause ANY computer connected to this router to not be allowed an internet connection. Depending on where and when you bough this router, it might have "ZoneAlarm" settings as well. Unless you have a full version of ZoneAlarm (not the free version), make sure ZoneAlarm Pro is disabled in the router.

Please keep us posted.
