Helpful

The discoloration problem is due to the near by magnetic field appliances like speakers which are very near to monitors ...
so what you have to do is just keep some distance to the monitor from the speakers and other magnetic appliances and then press menu button & just give degauss..

I have a viewsonic va721 LCD monitor and have sometimes experienced yellowish discoloration.

It seems to be connected to a disturbance of the signal in the monitor cable due to closeness to power cables.

Keep the monitor cable away from all power cables, the cable to the monitor itself and others.

Do you mean the power cord in the wall or the cord to the computer itself?
I tried the power cord to the wall and it didn't work (but I only have a large rug, not a carpet)

One thing you left out - this only applies to CRT monitors, LCD's are completely unaffected by magnetic fields. If your CRT is being affected by magnetic fields, the discolouration will usually be uneven across the screen.

3 yr old monitor; this morning, for the first time, had a yellowish tint with red "dot matrix" pattern on screen. Followed the comment to unplug and degauss by rubbing cord on the carpet, and it worked!

Hi. I just got my samsung syncmaster 920nw less than 6 months ago, and now i have a problem. I have read your tips on discoloration and followed it but it just didn't work. I took the speakers away from the lcd and yet nothing happened. The blue color is still very vivid but some parts of the monitor has discoloration. there are shadowy lines on the letters and the pictures as well. Everytime i highlight something the high light shows thin lines of black and white. its as if you are looking at a picture in a reverse color mode. please help... thank you.

i read qweasdzxc1's comment about unplugging the cord. Rubbing the cord plugs on the carpet really works!! thanks:)

I have found that this tip worked for my Compaq MV540 - press the diamind button on the front of the monitor, and select the icon which looks like a magnet - this is the Degaussing option that you mentioned. Oh...and a note to the wiseguy in the comments... he didn't say that it was caused by magnets, but my magnetic interference (invisible) from speakers, etc. I had rubbed my monitor up against my external speakers, and this is when my problem began. Thanks for the tip - it is a definite Fixya!

Unplug the moniter from the power point, then touch the carpet with it(i think it only works on carpet) and it will go back to the normal colours as this earths it.

I have the overall yellow tint in my lcd monitor there are no magnets close to it .I have tried adjusting color buy taking out each one completely each color had ayellow cast to it. When I pushed the auto adjust button the image is perfect for a few seconds, then goes back to a warm yellowed photograph look My monitor is a Viewsonic VE710b 17 inch and was a great monitor. Any other ideas besides magnets they have no affect on my screen.
