Computer Slowing Down???

We all have been feeling that our computers/laptops are slowing down gradually. There are a number of reasons for this phenomenon.
1. The slow processor. It seems that you have outgrown your computer and when you change the processor to a faster one, there is no guarantee that you will not outgrow this one too. Hence no one can help you overcome this problem as this will become recurring.
2. Fragmented HDD. The programs and data are written in chunks and not in one large piece. Thus it takes that many more moves of the read/write head of the HDD to read/write them. And that much more time. So we defrag the HDD to put them in as large a chunk as possible and thus save moves and time.
3. The bloated Windows Registry. This is a place that keeps track of all programs and devices installed on the computer. You install more programs or devices, it becomes fatter and fatter. And takes more time to read. Then you uninstall some programs or devices. Yes, some portion of the uninstalled program is removed but not all. Thus this debris keeps collecting and over the time (read programs) the registry keeps getting fatter. So what do we do? Simple. Clean it. Remove all the debris left by the uninstalled programs/devices. How? Use a registry cleaner. Yes, download one free today from sites like www.ccleaner.com. (Search Google for more sites offering free Registry cleaners. Follow the link as a guideline to search Search for Drivers Online.) A free, small program that install on your computer/laptop and when run, cleans the registry and also removes some other junk from your computer that you do not need.
My laptop had started taking more than 20 minutes to boot. And after using this cleaner it now gallops like a new one.
Try it.

my mac powerbook is slow

Welcome to fixya, I am also a Mac user. There are a number of reasons that may cause a Mac computer running slow or freezing to boot up, but generally two factors: hardware part & system part. For hardware part: I guess it's OK if your Mac is not that old. For system part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, registry errors... out there which largely slow down any Mac machines. about 80% slow Mac caused by this reason, if so, try cleaning the system. if you are experiencing these and unsure on what to do, better take your laptop a laptop tech, if you feel that you needed a hard drive change, then take it to a tech, have them replace your old hard drive
