Tip & How-To about Washing Machines
If your front loader washer is not draining right or the pump is make a lot of noise when it is pumping then you need to check these things out.
First make sure that you unplug your washer before working on it. Then prop the washer up on a board or two in the front and remove the bottom front panel. There are a few screws in the front at the very bottom that secure the panel. After removing them pull down on the panel and it should fall away. A bump or two on the panel will release it if it sticks.
Follow the hose from the tub to the pump. Some of the pumps will have a access cover to get into the pump and some pumps you will need to remove the hose from the tub to get to the pump. Be advised that when you do this you could have a gallon or so of water running out of the pump and hoses. Have towels or a wet/dry shop vac to clean up the water. If you remove the drain hose from the standpipe first and hookup the shop vac to it you can remove most of the water from the pump before dis assembly.
When you have access to the pump, clean out all the debris from the pump. Things like coins toothpicks, and swabs are things that often get in the pump impeller and keep it from running or make it noisy.
Replace all the hoses and covers where they belong and you should be ready to wash. Check for leaks when initially refilling. The pump will fill up again first thing so you will know right away if you have a leak.
If your pump does not run at all and you have power going to the pump when you place the washer in the spin position, then you will need to replace the pump.
To find a pump for your washer, do a search for “appliance parts”. Then enter your model number into one of the parts websites. You will get a parts menu for your washer. You then can find and order a new pump. Check a number of sites to find the best pricing.
