Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

Washer Troubleshooting Water not draining properly

If your front loader washer is not draining right or the pump is make a lot of noise when it is pumping then you need to check these things out.

First make sure that you unplug your washer before working on it. Then prop the washer up on a board or two in the front and remove the bottom front panel. There are a few screws in the front at the very bottom that secure the panel. After removing them pull down on the panel and it should fall away. A bump or two on the panel will release it if it sticks.
Follow the hose from the tub to the pump. Some of the pumps will have a access cover to get into the pump and some pumps you will need to remove the hose from the tub to get to the pump. Be advised that when you do this you could have a gallon or so of water running out of the pump and hoses. Have towels or a wet/dry shop vac to clean up the water. If you remove the drain hose from the standpipe first and hookup the shop vac to it you can remove most of the water from the pump before dis assembly.

When you have access to the pump, clean out all the debris from the pump. Things like coins toothpicks, and swabs are things that often get in the pump impeller and keep it from running or make it noisy.

Replace all the hoses and covers where they belong and you should be ready to wash. Check for leaks when initially refilling. The pump will fill up again first thing so you will know right away if you have a leak.

If your pump does not run at all and you have power going to the pump when you place the washer in the spin position, then you will need to replace the pump.

To find a pump for your washer, do a search for “appliance parts”. Then enter your model number into one of the parts websites. You will get a parts menu for your washer. You then can find and order a new pump. Check a number of sites to find the best pricing.

Bosh 1200 Washer stopped working abd did not drain only buzzes from what sounds like bottom right hand side.

Front loaders tend to go through brushes on the motor . If you can here a winding noise and the drum is not spinning that could be a sign the brushes may be worn. This occurs if you use your washer a lot or over fill it. Before going on with a service call at the front of the washer there is a cover where you can remove and make sure the pump guard is not blocked or has foreign objects blocking the pump . Before proceeding switch off power and shut off your taps. Then check the pump guard by unscrewing the cover. Give this a go.

frigidaire front washer has power but won't fill up, drain or go through correct cycles

You'll very likely have something caught in your drain pump. First set the washer to drain and spin. If you hear a hum or grinding noise and the water in the tub isn't draining or it's draining slowly you have something in the pump. If you take the rear panel off you'll reveal the drain pump at the right front corner or maybe middle on this model. if you empty all the water from your machine you can take off the spring clamp (this can be tricky) attaching the thick rubber hose from your tub to your drain pump. (you may want to have some old towels ready) With this off you can feel around for what's blocking the drain pump's impeller. You may want to take the screws out that secure the drain pump to the base and the other spring clamp that attaches the drain hose to the drain pump. Good luck!

Front Loader Frigidaire will not drain model no. LTF530FSO

check to make sure all hoses are not clogged - our washer hose before the pump was clogged due to washing a rug that had deteriorating rubber backing - would not drain until I flushed out the hose that goes from the tub t the pump.
