Windows Management in windows 7

  1. Windows Management. By now, you’ve probably seen that Windows 7 does a lot to make window management easier: you can “dock” a window to the left or right half of the screen by simply dragging it to the edge; similarly, you can drag the window to the top of the screen to maximize it, and double-click the window top / bottom border to maximize it vertically with the same horizontal width. What you might not know is that all these actions are also available with keyboard shortcuts:
    • Win+Left Arrow and Win+Right Arrow dock;
    • Win+Up Arrow and Win+Down Arrow maximizes and restores / minimizes;
    • Win+Shift+Up Arrow and Win+Shift+Down Arrow maximizes and restores the vertical size.
    This side-by-side docking feature is particularly invaluable on widescreen monitors – it makes the old Windows way of shift-clicking on two items in the taskbar and then using the context menu to arrange them feel really painful.

Windows 7 do not recognise the Lacie 1T lc3u device

Hi Dan

Does this work on other windows systems such as XP?

This could be anything from a defective HDD, defective Lacie enclosure, Odd format on the Hard disk, bad or confused USB port on your PC etc.

Check it is seen in device manager
Check it is seen in disk management
Check it is formatted in either NTFS or FAT32 in disk management

This are the best suggestions i can think of with such little information.

Purchased new Iomega 1 TB Home Media network HD, and both my MBP and PC windows 7 won't recognize the device.

you have to initilize the disk in disk management utility, heres how (windows XP)

  1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Click on the Performance and Maintenance link.
    Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Just double-click on the Administrative Tools icon and skip to Step 4.
  3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, click on the Administrative Tools link located under the or pick a Control Panel icon heading near the bottom of the window.
  4. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click on Computer Management.
  5. When Computer Management opens, click on Disk Management on the left.
    In a few seconds, Disk Management will load on the right side of the Computer Management window.
    Note: If you don't see Disk Management listed, you may need to click on the + icon to the left of Storage to expand the option.
  6. You can now format a hard drive, change a drive's letter, partition a hard drive, or do whatever else you need to do in Windows XP's Disk Management tool.

The computer ignores the Power Management settings and shuts down when I close the lid. This laptop was supposedly refurbished by DELL. They loaded the BIOS for a Latitude D810 (same motherboard as the M70, I'm told). Also, when the laptop is docked, it will not boot up (probably because the lid is closed).

The Windows power management function seems to be very particular as to the system in which is is installed; I have seen similar uncorrectable glitches on a variety of systems and while the 'Hibernate' worked fine on our system for an extended time, it has since stopped working and refuses to come out of hibernation now. Frankly, it seems just one more of those annoying MicroSoft 'things.'
