Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Laptop has no video but ower LED is on and restarting system does not help!

Possibly the safety system kicking in

step #1: remove the battery and all other external hardware
step #2: disconnect the power adaptor
step #3: press and hold the power button for 10-20 seconds
step #4: connect the power adaptor only! no battery!
step #5: press the power button to start system.
spet #6; If the system boots and you have video let it boot and run for 10 miniutes ... then shut down and reconnect the battery....
step #7: reboot system If system is still good repeat step#6

continue this process until all hardware is reconnected.....

This is very common among all laptops especially if they are connected to the adaptor for very long periods of time without using the battery. The process of holding the powerbutton with no energy to the laptop drains the power out of all of the capacitors on the system board and thus allows the system to boot normally once energy is reconnected.

Why My Inspiron mini will not start?

Hi,

It is unfortunate that the computer is not turning on. Request you to try following the below steps which might help:

    (1)Turn off the computer.
(2)Remove all the external peripherals like AC Adaptor, flash drives, battery, etc.
(3)Press and hold the power button for 30sec which releases the static on the computer (if any)
(4)Put back the battery and plug in the AC Adaptor.
(5)Let the computer charge for some time.
    (6)Try turning on the computer.
If the computer doesn't turn on then check hoe the Power LEDs on the system, battery and AC Adaptor react. Then I can check and help you further.

    Thanks and Regards.

POWER IS PASSING. WHEN WE PRESS START FAN GIVING MOMENT AND OFF

Looks like a typical failure of one of the basic hardware in your computer, please try removing non critical components from your computer

1. Mouse
2. External storage devices (external hard drive / flash memory), camera, printer etc...
3. Connection to Internal CD / DVD drives and also the internal hard drive

If possible also remove the video card (if you have a add on video card).

Then check powering up your computer, it it works we have to connect the disconnected device one by one and power up your computer each time to find out which one is the faulty one. Even after removing all components if your system does the same thing, then the issue is narrowed down to either of the following
1. Motherboard
2. Power supply
3. RAM (if you have 2 modules check one at a time)
4. Processor.

To test the above, we need spare components of the same.

will not start

First try to reset the hardware using the following steps:

1 Disconnect the battery and the charger
2 Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
4 Reconnect battery and charger, try to start by pressing the power button.

If it remains same, connect an external monitor to the VGA output of the system and then turn it on.

Let me know the results.

Can u use your laptop with battery only? If not then try removing the battery and use the ac power only. If its ok then your battery need to be replaced. If not then i suggest replacing your ac power or both.
