CANNOT OPEN SECURED SITES ????

After you upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) in Microsoft Windows XP SP2, some SSL-secured (128-Bit) Web pages and Web sites may not work correctly. Frequently, this behavior is caused by security changes in Windows XP SP2. To determine why the pages do not display correctly, use the following methods in the order that they are presented.
Turn off the pop-up blocker
Internet Explorer SP2 includes the ability to block pop-up windows. This new feature may block some Web pages. To turn off the Pop-Up Blocker, follow these steps: 1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
2. Click the Privacy tab.
3. In the Pop-Up Blocker section, click to clear the Block pop-ups check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click OK.
Delete the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder
If a copy of the Web page is in the Temporary Internet Files folder, the page may not display as expected. To resolve this problem, you must delete the contents of this folder. To do this, follow these steps: 1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
2. Click Delete Cookies, and then click OK.
3. Click Delete Files, and then click OK.
4. Click Clear History, and then click Yes.

Configure the security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer
Note Only add those sites that you trust as a trusted site. If you are not sure about a Web site, do not add the Web site to the Trusted sites list. 1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click Trusted sites, and then click Default Level.
3. Add any SSL-secured (128-Bit) Web sites to the Trusted sites zone. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Sites.
b. Type the URL of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box.
c. Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply.
Reset the Security Zones to the default settings
1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click Internet, and then click Default Level.
3. Click Local Intranet, and then click Default Level.
4. Click Trusted sites, and then click Default Level.
5. Click Restricted sites, and then click Default Level.
6. Click Apply.
7. On the Privacy tab, click Default, and then click Apply
Clear the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) state and the AutoComplete history
1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
2. Click the Content tab.
3. In the Certificates section, click Clear SSL State, and then click OK.
4. In the Personal information area, click AutoComplete.
5. In the Clear AutoComplete history area, click Clear Forms, and then click OK.
6. Click Clear Passwords, and then click OK three times.
Verify that Internet Explorer is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0
1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the Advanced tab.
2. Under Security, click to select the Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 check boxes if they are not already selected, and then click Apply.
3. Click Restore defaults.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click OK.
Use the System File Checker tool to scan all files that are protected by Windows File Protection
Use the System File Checker (Sfc.exe) tool together with the /scannow parameter to immediately scan and verify the versions of all the system files that Windows File Protection helps protect. If the Sfc.exe tool detects that such a file was overwritten, the Sfc.exe tool retrieves the correct version of the file from the Dllcache folder or from the Windows XP installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file. The Sfc.exe tool also verifies and repopulates the cache folder. You must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to run the Sfc.exe tool. To run the Sfc.exe tool together with the /scannow parameter, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.
4. Type exit, and then press ENTER.
Third-party browser extensions
Some third-party browser extensions and add-ons may interfere with how Internet Explorer views certain Web pages. To turn off these extensions, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Internet Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click Ok.
6. Start Internet Explorer, and then try to reproduce the issue.
If the issue does not occur, you can try to determine which third-party browser extensions may be causing the problem. To revert to the original settings, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, right-click Internet Explorer, click Internet Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click to select the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click the Programs tab.
6. Click Manage Add-ons.
7. Click Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer.
8. Select all but the first of the add-on check boxes that are installed.
9. Click Disable.
10. Click OK.
11. Start Internet Explorer, and then try to reproduce the issue.
If the problem does not occur, select the next Add-on check box in the list, and then try to reproduce the problem. Select each check box in turn until you determine which add-on is causing the problem. When you have determined this add-on, contact the software manufacturer for information about updates for the add-on Create a new user profile
In certain situations, you may not be able to search Web sites if your Windows user profile is damaged. To troubleshoot this, log on to the computer as another user and try to connect to a Web site. If you can connect to SSL- secured (128-Bit) Web sites when you are logged on as a different user, your user profile may be corrupted. In this situation, back up the information and settings that you want from your profile (for example, the My Documents and Favorites folders), and then delete the damaged profile. To delete a user profile, follow these steps: 1. Log on to the computer as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
2. Click Start, click Run, and then type sysdm.cpl.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then under User Profiles, click Settings.
4. In the Profiles stored on this computer list, click the user profile that you want to delete, and then click Delete.
5. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.
6. Click OK two times.
7. Log off the computer as Administrator, and then log on as the user. Windows XP will then create a new profile for the user.

You will be able to find what you want at Microsoft updates.
With browser open click on safety then go down to windows updates. If you dont find it then do a manual search on the updates website.

I am trying to load programs from old xp to new I am trying to load programs from old xp to new xp. I get explorer version update not compatible, Then old computer has newer version than new computer. Can i get this to work?


You cannot upgrade (as you say load ) from Windows XP to Windows XP. You simply cannot do this and there is no point in doing it as I explain. You can upgrade Windows XP to Windows Vista easily. In the case that you want to keep Windows XP and want to enjoy better security and new features than what you do is you go to "My computer" icon and right click it and then take properties of it. The new page that will open you carefully check for these SP1(Service Pack 1), SP2 (Service Pack 2) or likewise SP3.
If you do not find any (SP)Service Packs than according to your requirement you can download and install SP1 or SP2.
Caution: The third level service Pack for Windows XP is SP3. Microsoft has declared that it is not for everyone. I strongly discourage you to install SP3 unless you have a strong requirement for it. After that you can put your XP on normal regular updates from Microsoft.

A service pack is a collection of all updates released to that point, and often includes new features, as well.

The major enhancements in Windows XP Service Pack 2 include Security Center, Automatic Updates, Windows Firewall, and Internet Explorer.

Security Center is an entirely new feature provided by Windows XP Service Pack 2. The Security Center service runs as a background process in Windows XP and routinely checks the status of the following components:
1. Windows Firewall: Security Center detects whether Windows Firewall is enabled or disabled. Security Center can also detect the presence of some third-party software firewall products.
2. Automatic Updates: Security Center detects the current Automatic Updates setting in Windows XP. If Automatic Updates is turned off or not set to the recommended settings, the Security Center provides appropriate recommendations.
3. Virus Protection: Security Center detects the presence of antivirus software from many third-party organizations. If the information is available, the Security Center service also determines whether the software is up-to-date and whether real-time scanning is turned on.

When Security Center detects an important security condition (such as improper settings), it displays a pop-up notice in the notification area.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 provides several enhancements to the Automatic Updates feature, including the following:
■ The latest version of Automatic Updates offers expanded support for Microsoft products, including Microsoft Office.
■ Previous versions of Automatic Updates could download only critical updates. Now Automatic Updates can download updates in the following categories: security updates, critical updates, update roll-ups, and service packs.
■ Automatic Updates now prioritizes the download of available updates based on the importance and size of the updates. For example, if a large service pack is being downloaded, and a smaller security update is released to address an exploit, that security update will be downloaded more quickly than the service pack.
■ Automatic Updates is now more automated. The need for users to accept End-User License Agreements (EULAs) has been eliminated. Also, the user now has a choice of whether to restart the computer following the installation of updates that might require a restart. Updates that do require a restart can now be consolidated into a single installation so that only one restart is required.

Previous versions of Windows XP include a software-based firewall named Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2, this firewall is replaced by Windows Firewall.
Windows Firewall boasts a number of enhancements, including the following:
1. Windows Firewall is now enabled by default on all network
connections.
2. Windows Firewall provides an interface for configuring global settings that apply to all the connections of the computer.
3. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Firewall supports a new feature that allows you to keep Windows Firewall enabled and also not allow any exceptions; only solicited traffic is allowed. This new feature is intended to create an even more secure environment when connecting to the Internet in a public location or other unsecured location.
4. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, a startup Windows Firewall policy performs stateful packet filtering during startup, so that the computer can perform basic network tasks (such as contacting
DHCP and DNS servers) and still be protected.
5. In previous versions, you could not apply firewall rules based on Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, you can configure Windows Firewall so that firewall rules apply to IP addresses (or IP address ranges), meaning that only traffic from computers with valid IP addresses is allowed through the firewall.
6. In previous versions, you configure permitted traffic by specifying the TCP and UDP ports used by a service or application. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, you can also configure permitted traffic by specifying the file name of the application. When the application runs, Windows firewall monitors the ports on which the application listens and automatically adds them to the list of allowed incoming traffic.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.

could you please expand a little, you want to purchase vista on a secure web site?, or you wish to know about Vista, or are you not able to view secure web sites using Vista. If it's the last then open up internet explorer IE7 , select tools on the menu bar, then internet options at the bottom of the list, then click content then select the enable button, you may be asked to make up a password, then when you get all the slider options, move then further along to the right to allow more content to be viewed. Then go to the privacy tab and make sure medium is showing if not click settings and alter.
