Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
Many People like to use Google Earth to explore the world without leaving the comfort of their own homes.
Whether its just to explore a certain area or go on a sight seeing tour.
Now when you try to install Google Earth or Google Chrome on Windows 7 you will no doubt see this error "Google Earth installer error 0x8004071c"
This error is related to the installer package no being able to connect to the internet for updating purposes. Even older versions of the software wont install.
To get Google Earth or Google Chrome installed and working follow the instructions bellow.
Click on the start menu (orb) and in the text/search box type regedit and hit enter.
The registry editor will pop up, navigate through the registry by following this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>
When you have navigated to State, in the right hand pane you will see "ImageState" underneath "default".
Right click on ImageState and select Modify. A little box will pop up with text in the Value Data pane. Delete all of that text, leave it blank and click OK.
Close the registry editor and now your ready to install your Google software.
Happy virtual traveling or browsing.
In some cases older versions of the software won't install even if you have successfully performed the actions in this thread. You may get a error message.
If this is the case then check out an earlier thread of mine explaining how to get a program installed on Windows 7.
