Tip & How-To about Microsoft Windows XP Professional for PC

How do I perform an umattended install of WinXP without an A: drive ?

This is very simple when you have created your winnt.sif file to your specification instead of copying it to a floppy disc add it to the I386 folder and use Nero as normal.

I want to do a clean install of Winodws XP sp3 on a Acer 5515 laptop computer. What are the instructions I need to follow to have this done by me?

The best way is to use the factory reset option this will revert you laptop back to the way it was before you started using it.

I think is ALT + F10 during the bootup process.

If this fails I recommend that you use a Windows XP boot CD with SP3 slipstreamed, you can use nLite to do this, if you use have a USB floppy drive you can use a winnt.sif file on it you can add your OEM licence if you dont have a floppy then you can add this file to your I386 folder and burn a new install CD.

Use Nero Boot CD menu option and make sure that you set the screen as per this screen dump otherwise it wont work. Use Mode 2/XA for maximum CD-drive compatibility.

Minimum Required for Windows XP SP3 copy and paste this into a file named winnt.sif, replace the xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx with your valid Licence key I suggest that you check it first HERE fill in the rest your self and save it. You can add much more to this SIF file search the internet for more HERE is a great link for you to start with
