Tip & How-To about THQ Alcohol 120% (alcohol120)

How to remove a rogue Alcohol SCSCIVAX drive from your PC.

This SCSIVAX drive is a virtual CDROM device that is usually created by Alcohol. Normally, the uninstallation of Alcohol will remove this device but its not always guaranteed.

There are two possible solutions to this :

1. If you still your copy of Alcohol, then reinstall it. Once installed, you should then be able to find a setting in Alcohol (under Options->Virtual Drive menu I think) & set the number of virtual drives created on startup to zero. This will make the SCSIVAX drive disappear. Once gone, you can uninstall Alcohol again.

2. The other option, if you are comfortable with registry editing, is this :
Run regedit.exe, then in the left pane, navigate to :

Right click on the Service branch & select 'Export'. This will create a backup of this particular part of the registry.

Next, inside this Services folder, you should find keys for the Alcohol driver. Depending on the version of alcohol you had installed, these will be named either a347scsi and a347bus OR vax347s.sys and vax347b.sys

Delete each of the relevant keys.

Close regedit, then open the windowssystem32drivers folder & delete the files of the same names. (Or move them to another folder if you prefer, just in case!).

And presto they will be gone !!!!

my buffola hard drive is being recognized as Buffalo Virtual Cdrom USB device I have changed cable also went to another computer still seeing it as CDrom

Virtual Cdroms are used to provide the computer with drivers. As soon as the driver is installed, the Cdrom should disappear and the harddrive should be revealed. Windows used to autostart the Setup utility, but since this is a security risk, this was disabled.

You should try to manually run the setup or switch to a drive that is supported out-of-the-box.

East West Fron or Operational Art of War able to be played on Windows 7? Are any of these games out there updated?

I got talonsoft eastfront II to run on my windows 7 laptop by using two pieces of software. First I use vmware player and created a virtual machine with a winxp install. Second, I ripped the original game CD using alcohol. This creates an image that preserves the special formatting that is necessary because of the SafeDisc copy protection that is used in this talonsoft game. I mount this image using alcohol since my laptop does not have an optical drive. The vmware player sees the mounted image as a normal cd drive with the original game cd in it. I can install and play eastfront II in the win xp virtual machine. I installed the 1.02 patch. No other special settings were necessary. All features appear to work with this setup. The videos play, the unit viewer works (help files with transparency does not work in win 7 normally), background music and sfx are streamed off the virtual cd.

My Cd-Rom/DVD-rom don't work. It doesn't open any folder. I thought I have problems with drivers: SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM SCSI CdrOM DEVICE DVD-ROM SD-R2102 TOSHIBA LAPTOP SATELLITE 5005-S507 THANKS, OSCAR

According to the Toshiba website, the scsi cd-rom/dvd-rom does not require a driver to operate, but the driver for the scsi controller card it plugs into may need to be reinstalled or updated. Visit the following link, and go to the section labeled scsi cdrom/dvdrom. At the bottom of this section there are two links to websites where you may be able to find the drivers for your scsi controller card.
