By default this is set to 20 which in my experience is not enough you can increase this to a maximum of 99 however 50 should give you what you need under normal use.

Press + to get to the General Preferences.



It is a good idea to save the adobe file every couple of hours or so with a different incremental number of the same file name, this will ensure that you don't loose your precious work.

Also press + <8> to get into the Memory and Cache screen whilst in the previous menu to set the Maximum Memory for use with Photoshop to about 70% of you available RAM



With 1GB of RAM this works out to be 635MB as about 100MB is already used for system processes running in the background.
