The internet connection in my area went down yesterday, but i didn't know this and thought the reason i couldn't access internet was a problem with my linksys wrt54g router. So i unplugged and replugged the power. Now that the internet is working again (i know this b/c when i connected an Ethernet cable from my laptop directly to the modem, i can access the internet), i can't connect to the internet through the router anymore. The power light on the router is lit solid, WLAN is also solid (which means its not active, according to the cisco website), internet light is flashing rapidly (so the router can connect to the modem), and when i connect my laptop to port 1, the port 1 light blinks irregularly a few times and then stays lit solidly (which means there's no network activity). What happened and why can't I connect to the internet anymore? I have cable internet service through Mediacom. Also, the orange cisco light on the router used to be lit, but ever since i cycled power, that light is not lit anymore. When i press that light it turns white momentarily but turns off again.

The first thing you should do is a proper 'powercycle' for all of your internet equipment.

To do this:

1) Unplug the power to your modem and your router, and power off your computer.
2) Wait a full minute.
3) Plug the power back in to JUST the modem.
4) Wait some more - for the modem to fully connect to your ISP, and the lights to indicate. If you're not sure, just wait about 2-3 minutes.
5) Plug the power back into the router.
6) Wait another minute or two for the router to finish connecting.
7) Then turn the computer back on.

You can bypass the computer turning on and off if you can repair your wireless connection.

If this doesn't work, there is a pinhole sized reset button on the router itself that you will need a toothpick or somesuch to press - press and hold the button for 5 seconds, and then try the steps above again. If you do this, the network id and password will be reset to the default, just like it was when you bought it.

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 Router, It Has Worked Fine For About A Year, And Just Suddenly It Has Problems, The WLaN Light Isn't On At All, The Power Light Is Just Blinking At A Steady Rate. I Can't Access The Router Page Setup Thing, I Can't Connect To The Internet, And My Windows Vista Computer Don't Reconize The Router It Shows Up As Unidentefied Network.

Please make sure that Power, Internet and Wireless Light (or LAN light if trying to connect with Ethernet cable) is there on router if you are trying to connect it wireless .
And if only Power light is there only. Please try to power cycle the router ( turn off the router from power supply wait for a minute, plug the power supply back) and then again check the light status.
Even after this if same light status is there please try to reset the router ( there will be small pinhole button on the back side of router) just press it for 15 seconds and then release it.Wait for 2 mins and check the light status again.
It will fix your problem.

Please share the results.

Turn everything off, modem, router and computer.

Turn on the modem first and wait for a solid data/connect light.

Turn on the router, give it two minutes.

Still if problem presists you need to reset the router ..

How to reset::
Push and release the “Reset” button.
The lights on the Router will momentarily flash.
The “Power/Ready” light will begin to blink. When the “Power/Ready” light becomes solid again, the reset is complete
