Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

What you should do when you have a brand new computer

Most people these days are excited enough to get their brand new desktop/laptops. So their first reaction majority of the time is that they start downloading a lot of random apps, and such. But in all truth, doing this just shortens the length of life and effectiveness of your computer. So I have 5 steps you need to take to ensure long and effective computer life.

  1. You need to have a good anti-virus program. I recommend looking at ESET NOD32, AVG, Avira, and Avast.
  2. You need to have a disk defragmenter/cleaner. I recommend Advance System Care Pro or Free. Depends on if you wanna spend money.
  3. Set up a secure Internet. Most people that have Wi-Fi join an unsecure network in their area. You need to buy a Modem and get a internet service provider. Make sure you set your own password so no hackers, or other Internet users use your wireless connection.
  4. Maintain your computer. Make sure use disk cleaner/defragmenter at least once a month. Do virus scans as well, you never know when a virus could slip into your computer when you leave it alone for just a second.
  5. Finally, know what your Downloading/Buying. You don't have to get or follow every single step to have a efficient computer. These steps have given me the ability to get the best quality and performance from my computer.
NOTE: You will have to spend money, if you want to have a SAFE, RELIABLE, and EFFICIENT computer.

I have a 1986 volvo 240 wagon that im having a major charging issue with. i have replaced the alternator 7 times this week brand new, i have replaced the battery 3 times.

Is it possible you have a blown fusible link? Wiring diagram should show where these are located. You say the small red wire is zero volts with key on. Is this the wire that supplies "exciter" volts to alt? If so, it should be 12 volts at key on I think.

I have a brand new PB desktop pc - only 3 days old - when I open it up it works fine but once I have gone into a programme and closed it the desktop freezes - I can open other programmes from the start menu but not from the desktop

If only 3 days old, get in touch with the shop you got it from, or the support line.

laptop starts up normally but fails to display screen. no reaction. only the mouse arrow is visible

this is a virus/malware issue. It's best to just reinstall the OS and all the software. You may try to hunt it down with some antivirus/antispyware apps as I did, but that's only the long way arround, as the virus makes enough damage to your system that the only solution is reinstall. I wasted a couple of days trying to solve the issue and gave up on it and just reinstalled everything. Hope this helps

i have 1988 chevy camaro v6 2.8 Alternator is not puting juice back into the battery, i have a new battery and alternator. the car will run until the juice is gone from the battery, unless i'm running something like the lights, but as long as i don't have anything on it will run. I have ran a wire from the back of the alternator to the battery and it still is not putting back out

Does the charge lamp work? If not fix it. The alternator needs excite voltage or it won't work. In the past, worked on 80 Camaro, the generator wouldn't charge, no excite voltage. The charge lamp on the dash wouldn't work. I removed the dash enough to get at charge lamp bulb, it had vibrated loose in the socket, over time, pushed it back in, the lamp started working and the generator started charging. The L terminal at the gen should be excite voltage. At that time, I also tried to use jumper wire to get excite voltage to generator, it didn't work for me, either. I'm not sure battery voltage is proper? Those connections have to be real good.
The bat terminal on the generator, hot all the time, engine off, it should be. If not check that wiring circuit. Could be other issues.

my new gateway laptop fan runs continuously. it

Why do you think it is a problem? It is perfectly normal for laptops to get hot. That is the reason coolpads were invented. If you have a waterbed available, try using the laptop while it is sitting directly on the mattress. The water acts like a giant heat sink and the computer will stay much cooler.
