Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Maintenance for cd/dvd players

To make cd/dvd players live longer you have to clean the lens that is inside the player. You can do this monthly or once in 2 months. To clean the lens you need a lens cleaner which is like a cd with a brush on it. You can just put it in and play it, it will clean the dirt from the lens. You can buy it easily from any store or online and its very cheap. Also try to wipe the dirt off all the cds that you put in so your lens doesn't get dirty. Thank you, I hope this helps.

lens cleaning

You can buy a "cheap" lens cleaner from anywhere(FYE, Best Buy, Sears) and they all work well. I tend to use one from maxwell and it works well.

Be sure to check if they if they are rated for DVD,Blu-ray,HDDVD Ect. as they work in differant ways.

Also, be sure to clean monthly if you use your player often. It could keep it working longer.

yes that is very possible. cleaning the lens of the dvd player should happen atleast once a month. it can also be that the lens itself is scratched or the lase does not reach the disk tracks due to dust or bad handling

DVD player reads no disc. Was working just fine earlier today

Try these solutions: 1. Check to make sure the discs you are using are not scratched or dirty, if so clean them with a soft cloth and a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the rag. 2. Remove the cover from your dvd player by using a Phillips screw driver > Then push the eject button > Once the cd tray is out unplug the dvd player from the outlet > Take a few cu-tips and dip them lightly in a small amount of rubbing alcohol and with a small light source look in the carriage and you will see a small round glass looking bubble > This will be your laser optical lens, gently clean off the optical lens with the cu-tip moistened with alcohol > Repeat cleaning with a new cu-tip a few times > Dry off the optical lens with a dry cu-tip and let the dvd player air dry for 1 minute > Replace the cover and plug your dvd player back in and check to see if it plays the dvds.
You might want to invest in a optical lens cleaning disc which are cheap to buy. You should clean your optical lens at least once a month or as needed.
Hope this helps and let me know if it doesn't.
