Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

How to keep your Printers as good as new

Don't keep your printer next to a heater, air conditioner or even Televisions.

Once in a while open your printer take out the cartridges and clean the copper contacts, clean the carriage contacts (part that holds the cartridges ), Clean the carriage rod (metallic rod along which the carriage moves) , try to keep the printer off when not in use.
Clean the rollers where the paper goes in from and if you'll have an automated document feeder (ADF) open the adf and clean the rollers that grab the paper.
Never ever ,pull out the power cable from the back of the printer while the printer is powered on until asked by tech support.

THis would ensure a long and healthy life for your printer.

Happy Printing and Happy Holidays to all of you'll out there.........

get the esp 2170 to not print light green instead of black ? I keep on replacing cartridge , to no avail !

replacing a cartridge, while the nozzles are blocked won't help.
Realise the printer will mix there colours to get "black" on the paper. So even a full cartridge, can't make the other colours black till the blockage is gone.

Please try this. If you have ink cleaning fluid, (only for printer ink) use that, if you dont have cleaning fluid, use clean water.
Open the printer as if you replace a cartridge. Remove the black one and look tot the bottom of the cartridge holder. There is a little pipe, where the ink should go in. put some drops water or cleaning fluid in there leave it a few minutes. with a tissue dry it and again insert some drops of water or cleaning fluid. Then put in a cartridge and give the printer a black and white print job. Like print a few A4 papers. Let it print till the black comes back. Can take up to 4 pages A4. I hope this will unblock the nozzles.
Please even if you don't need to print, switch the printer on at least once a week. And even better, let it do a bit of printing every week. This will save a lot of frustration.

Do a head clean and can only get top half of yellow and black to show when i do the test print

Suggest this;

Where the ink cartridges plug into the printer, there are holes. Holes in the cartridge, and matching holes in the printer. This is where the ink goes through the cartridge, and into the printerf.

After a time period of not using the print feature these holes can become clogged.
This can also happen with buying low quality cartridges, or refilling a cartridge, and not cleaning these ports. (Holes)

Printer unplugged from power, open the printer case as you would to change the cartridges.
Remove all cartridges.

See the brass contact pad on the cartridge? In this pad are numerous small holes. (VERY small)

Use a DAMP clean, lint free cloth, that is damp from Very warm water.
Damp as in there are no droplets of water coming out.
Wipe this contact area on the printer. Do the same for the area on the cartridges.

I use my index finger inside the cloth. After wiping across once I find another clean area on the cloth to use. Keep wiping, and using a clean area on the cloth, until no ink is picked up.

I then follow with a can of compressed air to ensure the areas, (Printer and cartridges), are DRY.
You also may wish to let the unit set to dry out additionally.

Water (Moisture) is an excellent conductor of electricity. The areas Must be dry before reinstalling the cartridges.

You may also wish to don gloves when performing this procedure. (Dishwashing gloves?)
It is inevitable that no matter how neat you are, somehow ink finds it's way to your hands.

After cleaning, and the areas are dry, reinstall the cartridges.
Close the printer case. Plug the printer back into power.
Wait until the printer goes through it's procedure.

Perform the alignment procedure, and head clean.
Perform a test print.

Post back in a Comment as to your findings.

Go into printer maintenance and chose the Canon printer (assuming you have multiple printers). Once you chose the printer you can then perform maintenance and do cleaning and priming. Essentially when you click install new cartridge the system will essentially prime the printer so that when you print a document it will not have to prime itself. It should prime automatically once you close the lid and install the new cartridge.

RHFE-551A heater goes into lockout when starting from cold.

There are very few parts available for this unit. If all you have to do is wait for the unit to cool down and recycle the on/off button to start the heater, it may be one of the coils that open up the gas valve. To test if this is it, once the unit fails to start get your multimeter out and unplug the three coils on the gas valve and measure the Ohms across the tabs on the coils. You should get a reading between 1400 and 1700 across. If you get nothing, it is bad. The next thing to do is to remove the slide thermostat and clean it out using a Q-tip and some alcohol or one of those alcohol hand wipes. Lastly, inspect the unit for any bad connections and re-tighten the ground wires.
