Replace DELL Laptop Keyboard Key

Sometimes with Dell laptops, the keys on the keyboard gets stuck or damaged or fells off the keyboard. There are many different ways to repair your broken keys. Just put your mind to it and you will be able to repair it yourself.

You can place an order to replace your broken key or you can repair it you have all the parts intact.

You should have a key cap, 2 or more retainer clips (plastic pieces), which goes under the key cap.

Following is the installation guide to replace and repair Dell laptop key.

To install your key on your laptop keyboard, start out by observing your metal plates on the keyboard.

Always be sure to look at the metal keys because they differ in every keyboard. The larger metal hooks can be at the top, bottom, right or left side. The position of the metal hooks determines the position of plastic pieces.

Here you can see that it has one large metal hook at the top and two metal hooks at the bottom.

Take the larger plastic piece and observe that it has two larger sticks at the bottom, two holes at the middle and two shorter sticks at the top. The bottom sticks are going to go into the bottom metal hooks. The smooth part faces away from the keyboard.

Take the smaller plastic piece and observe that it has a small bar at the bottom, two sticks at the top and two sticks at the middle. The sticks in the middle are going to go into the middle holes of the larger piece and the bar is going to click on to the top metal hook. The smooth part faces away from the keyboard.

Place the smaller piece on the larger piece and insert its sticks to the holes of larger piece.

Push it evenly to insert completely. Get a thin object or blade and stretch the plastic pieces upwards so that it clicks together.

Take your letter key, put it in the middle and push down evenly from all four sides.

You’ve just repaired your Dell laptop keyboard.

a key is stuck

Notebook keyboards are not easily fixed--the best thing to do is get a replacement keyboard (unless you want to chance taking it apart yourself). var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_9753809ea1564b448a7ee38c1b469578(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); }

You don't have to buy a whole new keyboard to replace few keys. Try taking off the key cap and its retainer clips (plastic pieces underneath the key cap). Repair it yourself with the help of this video:

Keyboard problem on brandnew laptop

Several reasons: 1. because of spilled liquid on this keyboard area, 2. because of heavy and/or hard thing fell on this keyboard area
3. because the laptop fell from the high height on the left side.
4. because you bought it already damaged
5. hardly probably software malfunction
For the first case you might need to disassemble the keyboard and clean all the metallic surfaces of these buttons. It's not so easy to disassemble it in right way. Second-third case - you'll need to purchase a new keyboard for it and replace with the damaged. Fourth case - claim your seller to change your laptop with the new one or get your money back. Good luck
