Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

To recover unknown partition of windows xp/2003

When you are getting the disk read error and when you try to get it ok by bootable cd at that time you find that the drive is showing the unknown format.

In this case simple remove you faulty hard drive and plug into the another system where the operating system is same and format is also same eg. ntfs or fat32.

keep the HDD as secondary and start the system and go to manage-->disk management and click on the damage partition and it will try to recover it automatically and after that you get the unkown to ntfs than restart and chekc the hdd.

you can take backup of your c drive and than replug the hdd to your original system and most probaly it will start properly

And if do not do so than you can repair by bootable ok

In this way you can recover data from the unknown partition also.

my notebook suddenly shut down itself, then after i restart, it show select which drive to boot (but no option to let me select). Then i try to reformat it, but it show no harddisk install? i have try to remove the harddisk and reinstall again, but problem still same?

> no option to let me select

This means that no "bootable" CD-ROM was loaded into the CD-drive, *AND* that the "bootable" files could *NOT* be read from the disk-drive.

> it show no hard-disk install

Well, it shows that either:
* no electrical power is reaching the disk-drive
* the electronics "underneath" the spinning-part of the disk-drive have failed
* the "spinning" part of the disk-drive is not spinning (dead motor?)
* the disk is spinning, but nothing can be read from the disk-drive.

Try connecting the disk-drive to another computer.
If it is detected, that's good.
If not, then your disk-drive has a BIG problem,
and replacing it (with or without exercising any "warranty'") is your only way to move forward.
