Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Battery Conditioning.

Anything and everything that uses rechargeable batteries should be conditioned initially and then on a regular basis in order to extend the life of your battery. These products can be your MP3 player, iPod, Cellular Phone, Cordless phone, laptop and other similar products with internal batteries or proprietary batteries. I have a 3 year old laptop that I can still get over 1.5 hours of battery life out of. The secret is conditioning your battery. The manner in which you condition your battery is the same whether it is a brand new product or you have had the product for a time. You must do the following: 1) Fully charge the item. 2) Use the item only on battery until he battery is completely drained. 3) Charge the item fully once again. 4) Fully drain the item a second time. 5) charge fully and use as you would normally for 60-90 days then repeat this process. I know it sounds pretty simple and t most people you would think this has no effect on battery life but instead of getting into the details of how and why this does work let me just impart that I have graduated from courses as an Electronics Technician and a Technologist and I have a e year old laptop, 4 year old Cellular phone and a 3 year old iPod all with battery lives that exceed what most people get from their items with much less use and age than mine. I was also offered a job with those geek squad people by their regional manager here but I turned them down, I hate robbing people and that is exactly what I believe the geek squad does here. This does work you just have to stick to it. Now Laptops are a difficult thing to condition because you have to go in and change the power settings regarding running off battery. What you want to do is set these in a way that will drain the battery completely in the shortest time, that means maximum brightness, never turn off display and never turn off hard drives. Best of luck to you all and

Can u put rechargeable batteries into the Lanson smoke alarm

I am not familiar with the brand, but a quick search of the internet makes it look as though this is a 240VAC device. Since I'm not familiar, I thought I might offer some general advice re: rechargeable batteries. Most units will probably accept rechargeable batteries, but they will not provide a charging current to the battery, so you would probably find yourself changing the batteries more often, not less, because typical rechargeables are not charge to as high a voltage as non-rechargeables. I would suggest using lithium batteries because they are more likely to last the life of the unit (10 years by code in the US) when only being used as a backup; certainly you could expect 5 year battery life unless you go without power on a regular basis for extended periods...hope that answers your question. When in doubt, always check with the manufacturer.

Acer Aspire battery shutting off with no warning.

I am not familiar with this particular model but deal daily with this same issue on the Lenovo Thinkpads...it is the battery. They can just go bad. Had one yesterday that was fine the day before, now won't hold a charge. It was also less than two years old. They seem to have a shelf life. I would check with ACER to make sure they agree, then order a new battery.

To extend battery life, you need to use the battery up on a regular basis, then recharge all the way. Leaving it plugged in all the time with the battery in shortens battery life.

Acer N30 battery problem (even new battery does not last enough)

try checking your power saving options, you can drop down the backlight a little lower to extend battery life. Also you can lower down the volume of the system sound and check if the bluetooth is on, then turn it off. Recharge it and then check if the battery life extends. You also need to occasionally soft-reset the n30
