How to check whether a virus has effected a PC

Most common type of virus disable the windows capability to show hidden files. To check whether the computer does not have virus , goto My Computer > Tools (Tab) > Folder Options > View >

Select "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

Click apply and ok

Again repeat the same procedure and check whether the selected "Show hidden files and folders" is still active or its been return to the "Don't show hidden files and folders".

If its still active then it means virus has not effected the system of at least you could delete the hidden virus files.

If it automatically return to the "Don't show...", virus has effected you system. Then go for a good anti-virus software.

I have a WD my book drive. When I try to see the files on the drive they are Not there, But when I click the properties the drive shows half the drive space is used. how do I get the files to show be up. mdlwd32000co32-002 s/n wcapz1034385 Thanks, Bobby

Hi,
It is due to virus activity. Some virus make the contents of the drive hidden, thats why user can't see the files. This can be fixed and data would be available to you. However, there are number of steps involved.
It is suggested that go to FOLDER OPTIONS - and select 'SHOW HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS' and uncheck/ Deselect 'HIDE PROTECTED SYSTEM FILES'.

It would show the hidden files/ folders, if the system not infected Otherwise, from the clean/ virus free system you can see your data and copy all the required files/data. Select the required files and right-click and change the properties of the file by un-checking the hidden attribute. Please note that you can not change the properties (hidden attribute of the files) if the files are marked as system files. To change the attribute of such folders you can download and use iReset.

Also, make sure that you have a good antivirus installed and its updated. Scan your system and clean it.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

i scan memory card with quick h antivirus and all the files in the card automatically showing hidden and even not showing on computer in hidden form too..i check it with x plore, it shows all files but cant be delete...

This is a common problem. Some antiviruses take the data as a threat/virus, and place them in a seperate hidden folder and changes their extensions (extensions are the file types e.g MP3, JPEG, etc) so that they are no longer accessible. I'd advise you to connect it with your computer. Then go to the TOOLS tab in your upper part of the computer window. Select Folder Options and choose "SHOW HIDDEN FILES" Im sure you'll be able to see those files. Unhide them by changing their PROPERTIES, and restore their extensions simply by typing in the previos extension using the RENAME option of your computer. I hpe this solves your problem If not, you may clarify your complaint and mail me at : streetstyles@live.com

my computer where infected with virus please help me to remove it

There may be another alternative.

You can remove the infected hard drive and use another computer to put it into as a slave/secondary drive.

You can then try to "Clean" the infections via this computers antivirus and malware cleaners. Check the Gizmo site for some really great advice and loads of programs that can help you.

Make sure this other computer's security is up to date first.

REGISTRY , TASK MANAGER DISABLED AND SAFE MODE DOES NOT WORK

hi friend chk ths
You are right that this is because of a virus attack. The virus has changed somethign in the registry. Follow the below methods: Method 1:Go to registry editor by running regedit in the run box. Go to this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
In the right hand area, double click hidden and change the value to 1. Now you’re all set to go. Check it in your tools menu if the changes have taken effect. Method 2:1. Click “Start” -> “Run…” (or press Windows key + R) 2. Type “regedit” and click “Ok”. 3. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL 4. Look at the “CheckedValue” key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key. 5. Create a new key called “CheckedValue” as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1. 6. The “Show hidden files & folders” check box should now work normally. Enjoy!
