Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

Fridge running constantly ,and not cooling effectively?

You need to remove kick plate from bottom of fridge and blow out the condensor coils .some fridges have coils in the back.so you will need to remove back panel at bottom of fridge .if coils are plugged, heat can not be removed from freon.it will begin to super heat before it reaches capilary tube.

the rubber on the fridge & freezer doors are hot

pull out the machine, remove the front bottom kick plate and then go to the back and remove the back bottom panel, check to see if the condenser fan blade is spinning and check the condenser coil to see if it's loaded with lint and dust.the fridge is running to hot,the way it cools down is the condenser fan blows air around to keep the machine cool and heat escapes through the condenser coil,if it's blocked with dust the heat is held in the coil,a shop vac works great for the coil, vac up as much dust as you can and then set the vac up on blow and blow the dust out of the coil, the coil will either be in the back or on the very bottom of the machine,if the fan isn't running try spinning the blade,it might run or something could be stuck in it,i've found from a piece of paper to a mouse stuck in the blade,if it is the blade you can leave the back panel off and stick a house fan back there to cool down the machine until you get a new motor,if the motor does run after you spin it i would still change it out as soon as possible,if it stops again you could damage the compressor and then it's new fridge time.you should clean the coil at least once a year.hope this helps and next time you need help send the brand name and the model number off of the machine that you need help with

hot spots on outside of Amana fridge. sxd22s2w model

if it feels like it's running hot check the coil to see if it needs to be cleaned, remove the bottom kick plate and look at the coil, the coil should be cleaned once every 6 to 12 months, also pull the fridge out, remove the back bottom panel, make sure the condenser fan is blowing and vac out any lint near the fan and compressor, also check the cover that you removed and clean that too.you might want to unplug the fridge while you clean back there so you don't hit the fan blade, wait 5 minutes before you plug it back in so the compressor can reset itself.there are gas lines that run through the frame of the machine,if the coil is jammed with dust and lint the machine runs hotter, this is how it cools off through the condenser coil and the fan blows the air around to help cool it down,if it runs hot then the freon will run hot and you could feel it on the frame and in the strip where the doors close together.you can buy a brush that you can push into the holes of the coil to pull the dust out or if you have a shop vac you can vac out as much as you can and then put it on blow and blow the dust out of the coil, just hit it with short bursts or the dust will blow everywhere.

The divider between fridge and freezer is very hot. How can it be cooled down

Clean the coils at the bottom front , behind the bottom kick plate AND pull the refrig out and remove the panel covering the compressor . Once removed , check that the cooling fan ( condensor fan motor ) is not blocked and is running as the compressor runs .

Beaumark fridge freezer is going on and off

Check the condensor coils for dust, try to see if the condensor fan is blowing air over the coil, check inside the freezer to assure the inside fan is circulating air, and if the "noise" is coming from either of the fan motors, they will need replaced by a service technician.
