Tip & How-To about Heating & Cooling

Boiler Energy Saving Controls They can save You Money

I was recently emailed a question by a fellow that wanted to know if an outdoor reset control would help him cut fuel oil costs for a seasonal home in that was only used occasionally in the winter. The short answer is yes, however there may be a better control for him and his particular circumstance.

Energy saving devices are great things in many ways and they usually do save you money. The problem is that you need to use the right device for the job that you want to do. Using the right control to do the job you need is the question that needs to be answered. Just because you spend a lot of money on a control it does not mean that you will save a lot of money.

What kind of fuel are you burning? What type of boiler do you have and at what water temperatures can it be run at? These are a few of the critical questions you must consider.

If you have a condensing gas boiler and have a heating system that will heat at fairly low water temperatures for most of the season then an outdoor reset control will be worth installing. If you have an oil boiler that needs to run at hotter water temperatures to prevent condensation then you may want to use a different control.

Oil boilers often run a hot fire and usually are not piped in such a way as to get the heat away from the boiler as fast as it is produced. Because of this the boiler will be cycling many times an hour. This cycling will decrease the efficiency of the boiler and cost you money.

By installing a Beckett HeatManger on your oil fire hot water boiler you will make the run times longer and increase your efficiency. The Beckett HeatManager will smooth out the cycling and get you the comfort and efficiency that you want for much less money than many of the outdoor reset controllers. In many cases you will save the price of the control in a month. The best part is that many average do it yourself persons can install this control themselves!

Using the right tool to do the job you want will save you fuel, time, and money. Make sure that you find the right product to install before you just start throwing money at a problem.

where is the inertia cut-off switch on 1983 nissan 720 PU

I'm not sure if there is a cut off switch for the 720. I was just reading recently about a common problem on them though, being the fuel pump control unit. If your pump isn't working, this may be your culprit. It is located on the passenger side kick panel. Pull the trim off, you should see it. Cost for them is about $60-$70. There may be a way to test them, I don't know.

I have a 2000 lincoln ls, it doesnt have the status control, how can I reset the messages?

There are MANY functions that can reset from fuel, oil life and more. Need to know which functions you want to reset. Do you have an owners manual for your vehicle ? The instructions are in there. If you do not and would like a copy of the owners manual, you can email me at csautomotivecars@att.net and I will be happy to email you a copy. This way you can reset any function you want as they are each individually done. No there isn't a cost for it.

My fellows jbo1 jamed and then stopped running is there a reset buton?

Chances are it's over heated.
Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds. Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled. See oiling instructions below.
