Tip & How-To about Audio Players & Recorders

UNKNOWN DISC and BLOCKED errors on your DVDR 3380....

This will happen if you close the tray by pushing instead of using the insert/eject button. the BLOCKED error means the the rack and pinion can't be moved by the motor which takes too much current and stalls hence the error

The guide pin can jump is dogleg and cause the tray to bow slightly this can also cause UNKNOWN DISC as the head tries to read the DVD at an angle also you will hear the record/play head unit moving inside the unit trying to find the start of the DVD.

The best option is to free the tray UNPLUG and remove the cover the you will have to remove the inner cover on the top of the DVD mechanism you maybe able to see the tray bowed look underneath you should see the dogleg guide and the pin should be inside this track yours might be outside, try to re-seat don't force it or pull the tray out you may not get it back inside the unit.

I suggest that with the cover off you also use some rubbing alcohol and a cotton bud on the plastic parts that you can see have dust and finger grease deposits. DON'T clean the head !!!

With the cover back on test the eject if this still wont work there is a manual release on the underside of the unit which is clearly visible place a screwdriver into the hole and slide across to release the DVD.

I will add pictures to this tip this week as soon as my bluetooth starts working and I can transfer pictures from my phone.

The drawer will not work.

This will require a good clean on the inside, POWER OFF then remove the cover clean the plastic rack with rubbing alcohol and cotton bud.

If the DVD won't spin due to trapping inside the tray you will never be able to read the DVD check to see if the tray will insert and eject usinf the button,

NOTE : never push the tray to close this can cause the tray to jump its guide dogs leg which is used to lift he head to the DVD after it has been inserted.

stops playing in the middle of the movie. freezes, will start again if you tap top of player.

Sound like the disc is stopping inside the player this can happen when you push the tray into the player instead of using the eject/insert button. This can cause the tray to slip its guide plug on the rack and pinion tray release this will also cause tray blocked unknown disc errors, this will need to re-seated.

It is also caused by excess dust and finger grease inside of the player that can build up over a number of years I suggest that you first unplug and then remove the lid from the device give the plastic internals a clean with rubbing alcohol.

DONT TOUCH the record/play head or power up with the lid off.

This model has not release hole at the front as kladdaugh suggested this paperclips type of release is normally put onto ATAPI DVD-ROMs on your PC
