Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

When Your Computer Will Not Keep Time, Replacing a Mother Bord Battery.

One may ask, why would I change the battery on my PC, and many of us don't even realize that there PC has one but believe it or not your computer would not be the same without it! .

The battery on your computer motherboard is responsible for feeding the configuration memory, or CMOS, and to feed the real time clock of the computer, the one that show the date and the time.

You can bet it's time to change your battery when your computer is giving one of the following error messages when you turn on your computer.

CMOS BATTERY STATE LOW
CMOS SYSTEM OPTIONS NOT SET
CMOS TIME AND DATE NOT SET.
CMOS CHECK SUM FAILURE

Another indicator of a low battery is a clock that, after being set, runs well while the computer is on,but shows the wrong time when the computer is turned on the following day (it is late).

The motherboard battery can be built using three different technologies:Nickel-cadmium (NiCd), NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) and Lithium (Li). The Lithium battery, which is a round one (the size of a coin) and can be easily found at watchmaker's and computer parts stores, has long been the most used type. To buy one of these batteries, all you have to do is to look for a model CR2032.

Replacing the motherboard lithium battery demands some care, it is important that you have your computer turned off, unplugged, and that you have gotten rid of any static build up you may have (you can do this by touching a metal object that is grounded or wearing a anti-static bracelet that is clipped to a ground).

The lithium battery may use basically three socket types: socket with upper tab, socket with lateral tab, and the socket into which the battery stands instead of lying.

While the replacement of the battery in the socket with the lateral tab or of the one that stands is simple – all you have to do is draw back the tab using your finger or a small screwdriver and replace it.

Replacement of the battery that has an upper tab covering it demands extra care. In this type of socket, if you raise the metallic tab to replace the battery, it will lose its pressure and will not make contact with the battery anymore, damaging the socket. In this case, the correct replacement of the battery in done pressing a small plastic lock at the side of the socket with the fingers or using a small screwdriver. That will allow the battery "to slide" laterally, not damaging the upper tab.

Congratulations friend! you have successfully fix your computer! Rest easy in the rewards of your efforts and smile smugly with the knowledge that you have saved yourself cash.

Good Luck and happy Computing!

My suggestion is to go thru your computers manufacturer and ask for directions on how to activate the Administrators account. I didnt realize on my computer that I didnt have Administrative rights until I tried to change my permission levels (I am a little bit more advanced than most users and needed the access to different areas in the computer). Having the Administrative rights should help alot.

How do I change the Primary Master HDD Master Password?

You've got a real problem. I'm not calling you a thief, but 99% of the time when there is a computer that has a lock on the Hard Drive and the person in possession of the computer don't know the password, the computer is stolen. The Hard Drive Password is put on to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. It could be set by the real owner remotely once they realized the system was missing.

Don't know the administartor password for Ctrl alt delete

Just reset windows password directly.

If you have created a Windows password reset disk at some point in the past, use it at the windows logon screen to change your password. The password reset disk will still work even if you've changed your Windows password since creating the disk.

Otherwise, break windows password with the Windows Password Reset

how do i re flash the computer after changing the battery in a 2006 camrey?

Reflashing the computer is done with a special adapter
& a scan tool ,as well as purchasing a licence from the MFG

So I assume installing updates, is not what your asking!

I would suggest some research, before you even disconnect
a battery cable on todays vehicles

I would ask your questions at a local repair shop, if you
can not now start the car. They will at least know what you do next

I don't have access to any data base to help you
