Tip & How-To about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

Xbox 360 tray stuck closed

This is a common problem with many older units.
When you press eject the light flashes on the box
and the screen says" Open tray" bu nothing happens.

The cause is a weak eject motor , that is unable to
break the magnetic seal holding the cd rom against the
spindle .

If you press eject wait 1 second then smack the top
of the box HARD right over the cd rom drive your tray will
open .

The fix for this is to clean out the drive and re-lube all the
tracks and guides ,also gap the magnet in the upper hub
so it holds the cd with a little less force .That will enable
the motor to break the seal with out stallingout

It possible that a belt has broken or come off. You need to look inside. If you need a new belt just measure the diameter in MM and search Google for the nearest size to your measurement.

I went to put a game in the xbox to play,I waited for it to load & nothing happened. The screen said open tray.I waited & waited but nothing.I pressed the green button on the controller but the tray opened & shut.It still read open tray!!!! What does that mean???

Well you may be having disk tray issues, sure hope so as compared to a burnt out lens module, try ejecting the tray fully and wiping all dust off around the grooves under the tray, one more tip is to keep a disk in the drive at all times, even when you aint playing it, you can also try giving it a gentle tap on the front pat where the disk tray is located any time you eject it or push the tray back in, come to think about it if you are fond of pushing the tray in after inserting a disc, stop cos it weakens the motor that drives the ejecting process, hope this helps...

Try and resset the xbox by pressing and holding the small button by the 2nd memory slot and the eject button together before turning the unit on, the xbox will turn on whilst still holding the the eject button release the other button then press it in again, the lights should stop flashing, now power off using the normal switch and then power back on again, and a game again. hope this and post back what happens. ty

Cd/dvd drive

You can see a hole located on the tray of the cd rom drive. Commonly seen beside the button to eject the cd out. Grab a small pin and push the hole and this should eject the tray. Close the tray again by pressing the button. Eject it using the button. If everything still failed, call up Dell to have the CD Rom Drive replaced.

disc tray

Need more info than that. Does the light in the center of the power button flash like it is trying to open? Does it make any noise? Does absolutely nothing happen? This can a problem from small to large. It could just be a bad switch or connection, or the drive may need to be replaced.
