Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to prevent laptop and Deskto from overheating.

Overheating[overheating]"overheating""best computers""computers laptop"

First of all you need to keep your work space clean at all times so that dust and debris do not get into your unit.

Also you need to maintain airflow a routine maintenance of your machine will keep the unit in order.

If you computer is overheating first thing you do is open the case and clean out the dust.

Also you need to replace the Thermal compound under you heat sync where you cpu is.

  1. First you want to do is take off the cpu fan.
  2. Then you want to wipe the access thermal compound off.
  3. Then you apply the thermal compound by adding one dime size drop in the middle of the cpu (do not spread with fingers)
  4. Then you want to put back on your fan and heat sync.
This will keep your system at normal operating temperatures I would suggest you do this once ever 3 months at the most.

My portege s100 is overheating and the fan is turning on intermittently

  • Hello gerson galdo, this problem of 'Overheating is cause by the "Fan" not working properly. What you need to do is clean the 'dust' from the compartment in the bottom of the "Laptop." It is not that difficult to do. First, close all applications, 'Logoff', turn off the computer. Warning! To prevent "Shock and or an electrical hazard; "Unplug the computer." Next locate the compartment for the Fan, you will need a 'Phillips' screwdriver to open it. Once you have it open, you need to clean the dust out of the Fan; the best way to do so, is to 'Blow" the dust out, or 'gently' brush it out. Now all you have to do is 'replace' everything back in reverse order. I hope this fixes the problem. "Thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9"

my computer is slow?

its could be that you have overloaded you hard drive with too much files and you'll need to delete some of these files in other to free the space on your hard drive and you computer's performance will improve by so doing.

Secondly, it might be that your computer is overheating, this also can make you computer slow. One problem with toshiba laptop, is that they overheat too much.

Check if the fan of your laptop is working and make sure you keep your laptop where there is ventilation, so that air can enter into the laptop.

You could also open up the laptop, clean every dust on the motherboard and also the fan and cooler.

Take care.

My computer keeps turning on and off. I thought it might be an overheating problem and so i cleaned up my fan and i didn't see any change. It is not also a problem from the battery from the charger or battery because they work properly. The weird thing is my computer works properly if i put it on lap and would turn off if i put it on the floor. By the way, my computer is toshiba A205. please help!!!

I think you were on the right track with overheating. Many laptops have more than one set of input and output air vents. Maybe you cleaned out one but missed another one. Since you said the laptop turns off when you place it on the floor I'd look for partially clogged vents on the bottom of computer. Brush away any external dust on the vents with an old toothbrush. Then try blowing air through the vent holes with one of those cans of compressed air made for dusting off keyboards. Sometimes the dust is buried inside the machine. I once worked on a Sony laptop that I had to take apart to completely clean out the vents.
