Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

Paper feed problems

These are often solved simply by making sure that the paper is dry. After a week or two, especially in a damp environment, paper absorbs water and the printer feed mechanism then slips. The printer promptly reports a feed problem, or jams (or both). Keep paper in its original packing as far as possible, and, even better, shove the unused paper into a plasic bag (without holes). Don't try to dry paper you suspect is damp. Dump it and use new.

MP490 paper jam problem. No paper jammed or even in the printer. What can a person do? I've only had it 4 months and haven't used it much. No receipt.I'm losing faith in Canon. I got this one because my MP600 has error 5100. What's up with all these problems Canon?!!!

First:  try a new **** of paper, if that works; it means your paper got damp, or old and stuck together.  Try fanning the stack of paper with your thumb on the edge, like a deck of cards.  If that works, this is why: The most common reason for paper feed issues is Humidity; when paper gets wet or hangs from the tray for weeks or months at a time, they tend to pick up the moisture in their environment...

If that doesn't work and its only four months old: you're very fortunate in that you can still send it in for warranty repair by going to the Manufacturer's website, if purchased in the USA:go to:

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer?pageKeyCode=repairLanding

If not, try typing canon warranty repair, into your search engine.

I recommend using the phone number instead of the web site because most Customer Service representatives have the authority to email a free shipping label,  Make sure to ask as some companies will not offer unless you do.  Ask for a pre-paid, shipping label along with an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization), they may say no on the pre-paid label but you won't know, for sure, unless you ask.

Make sure to keep your paper in a cool, dry, place, after you get your printer repaired or replaced :)

disassemble it as much as you can. leave it in a dry warm environment for about a week to dry out. put it back together in about a week. charge up the battery and power it up. cross your fingers it may work.

p.s. was it on when it fell in the water ?

Both colored & black ink tanks are new but nothing comes out

I have had this problem before. Try removing print head and cartirdges. get warm water in bowl and swirl head in water until water remains clear. Need to empty and refill water a few times. Pat dry with absorbent paper. Re-install head and cartridges and do a clean.
