Tip & How-To about Garden

You can't just tip the mower over!

There will be times when you need to tip the mower over. Weather it is to change the blade, or clean out the clumpy grass stuck underneath.

The problem is, you can't just tip it any which way! If you tip it the wrong way you could cause oil to pour into the corroborator and leek gas out of the unit. Now you will have a flooded engine, and an oil soaked air filter. This doesn't make for ideal starting situation.

So how do you know in which direction you can tip the mower safely?

You should always tip the mower to the opposite side of where the corroborator & air filter is.

So if the corroborator and air filter is on the right side of the unit, tip it to the left.

this will save you a lot of trouble.

If the mower starts and runs, then shut it off.
Find the spark plug.
Now, tip the machine up on its side WITH THE SPARK PLUG UP.
(If you do not, and if you tip it the wrong way, you can fill the combustion chamber with oil and ruin the machine when you try to start it again.)
Once it is tipped, look under the machine, and feel the blade to see if it is tight or loose on the motor shaft, and also if it needs to be sharpened.
If loose, tighten it.
If dull, sharpen it.
God bless your efforts.

Engine sputters and sometimes stalls when driven over "clumpy" grass or uneven ground

Check for loose wires to the spark plug and "kill" switch.

I have weed eater/poulan 22" push lawn mower. It

Hi goldengear...

Make sure you have installed the blade on the right way, if it is installed upside down then it will "beat" the grass instead of cutting it and make a terrible cut, also make sure the blade is good and sharp.
The rough running may be due to trash in your carburetor, I would advise to clean your carburetor and also check you fuel tank for trash, water, etc. if there is any trash, water, etc in there then you need to also clean the fuel tank.
Do one more thing and check/clean/replace your fuel filter if you have one.

why do grass get stuck in lawnmower than it starts to turn off

This can be happening from a couple of reasons, first if your grass is too damp this will happen with almost any mower, wait till the lawn dries out before cutting, you may be cutting the lawn when it is too high, try cutting it twice a week maybe this will help, you may try to raise the cut setting eliminating the amount of grass clippings that you have accumulated, if you are mulching or using the bag be sure the chute is clear, and lastly be sure you are running at a higher speed to push through the terrain.
Happy Mowing!!

lots of smoke when I engaged stuck blades - now runs roughly

Most likely what you did was burn one or more spots on the belt. When the blades and belt stop turning, like in tall grass, the engine doesn't stop and will burn flat spots on the belt at the engine pulley. Every time the flat spot hits a pulley, it will jump and can set up a bad vibration. Run your hand around the sides of the belt or take it off and you will feel or see the thin spot(s) on it. Replace belt.
