Tip & How-To about Cell Phones

Blackberry E-mail/BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) Troubleshooting

Blackberry Internet Service can stop functioning for several reasons, usually for a simple reason, that can be fixed with a simple solution.

  • Most Blackberry issues can be solved by pulling the battery while the device is on and replacing it after it about 10 seconds.
  • The Blackberry product can "fall" off your number at network level and needs to be re-provisioned by your network service provider. You can tell when this happens because GPRS/3G in the upper right corner is displayed in lowercase.
  • You need verify your e-mail on the Blackberry Portal. Every so often you need to do this, especially with hotmail/live accounts. Verifying your account can be done by logging into your Blackberry Account via the Portal and clicking on the red x.
  • Make sure your e-mail server is online & is sending out mail.
  • Sometimes Blackberry Desktop Manager can interfere with your Blackberry Service and this can be solved by uninstalling Blackberry Desktop Manager and reinstalling it, upon installation you will be prompted whether it is a Enterprise or Personal account. Closing the latter will re-enable your e-mail.

8520 Curve - emails not being delivered to my device

Hi there,

There are usually a few reasons why your blackberry is not receiving emails.

The first reason is just a lack of memory on the device and a battery pull usually alleviates this problem. This is simply done by opening the battery case on the back, removing the battery for a few seconds and reinserting it.

The second reason is because your service books need to be resent. It is different on most devices but is always done through the email settings. Generally it is done like this:
1) go into email settings/email setup
2) login
3) go into settings or press the blackberry icon (the button directly to the left of the trackpad) and
then select "service books"
4) press "send service books"

If you cannot get into your settings on your phone then you have Internet issues on your Blackberry as well. You would need to login to your Blackberry settings via the computer. To access this it will depend on your carrier that you are using. If this does not work let me know and good luck!
