Tip & How-To about Canon ZR100 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Remove tape issue

I just rec'd. a response from Canon in regards to my recent issue that you are all having with tapes being ejected, not loading. I was told that the issue was due to the many different tape manufacturers using different types of lubricants for their tapes. These lubricants can build up on the head and cause the tape eject issues. They suggest trying a dry cassette cleaner, but as my camera will not even accept a tape that option is not viable. I will try using denatured alcohol on an electronic swab (large q-tip available at Radio Shack) and try cleaning the head. I will keep you all posted on the results. Also Canon said that the posts can be loose and this will also cause problems. I noticed someone else had similar concerns this also something I am exploring and will keep you up to date on.

Hi, after a long period i want to use my MV200i again. But the only thing it says it "Eject the Tape". There is a tape loaded. When i press the eject button, it makes some sound, some gears are movin, but the tape gets not ejected. Can i remove it manually? regards

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

when i put a tape in it ejects it..then a tape with a slash appears on the screen

you are prohibited from recording on thips tape. This is because the red tab on the side of the tape that faces you when you are inserting the tape inside the camera has been put in 'SAVE' position . to be able to record o the tape you need to use your fingernail to slide the red tab to the 'REC' position.

Ive extracted the following article for you from wilkepedia to help you understand this issue:
Tape and recording protection
250px-8mm_cassette_erase_tab.jpg magnify-clip.pngThe write-protect switch (right) prevents accidental erasure. .
To prevent the recording on the tape from being erased, there is a small write-protect tab that can be moved to one of two positions, labeled "REC" and "SAVE". Comparing the sliding tab to a door, the tape is in the "REC" position is when the "door" is open and the "SAVE" position when it is closed. (Not all tape cases have markings for this information!) The tape can only be recorded on (or recorded over) when this tab is in the "REC" position. This is an improved version of the VHS write-protect tab, which prevents erasure after it has been (permanently) broken off.

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)
