If the display fades out, the problem is solved virtually every time by replacing a few electrolyctics on the display board, specifically C1,24,26,28 and 29.

I've got a sony str-de915, no front display but I have sound. noticed a while back the display letters fading until nothing.

These systems have VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) driven by ASIC ( Apllication Specific IC) replacing the display controller could solve your problem BUT TO BE DONE PROFESSIONALLY

THE FADING DISPLAY IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH TERM, BOSCH, AND JENN-AIR JUST REPLACING THE DISPLAY BOARD OR EOC DOESNOT SOLVE THE ISSUE DUE TO INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO CHANGE THE MAIN PWR RELAY BOARD

Power Problems on NEFF H7871 Combi Microwave

It would seem there is a bad connection in the fuse holder or in the wall socket or in the microwave itself. Maybe you can narrow it down to the microwave by trying other devices in the wall socket. If it's the microwave, it's time to call for serivce.
